Anyway to not update to 24H2 but still get security updates?

Came here searching for the same info, installed the H2 update, and it completely ruined my entire color scheme, had to revert back to 23 and delaying as long as I can.

But why are they trying to trick us into installing it when it is obviously going to mess us up. I don't want any of this new AI **** because I have yet to encounter an improvement that actually does not slow me down. It has been this way since Windows 7. It gets continually worse to the point where I spend four out of five hours troubleshooting and fixing things that the updates break.

Right now, I cannot even use a browser and word at the same time without sudden lagging and crashing.

If you never clicked the 24H2 offer that is the easy option, don't click it and you will continue to get security and feature updates for 23H2. BTW - there is nothing wrong with 24H2 for most systems. I am running it on many of my devices, however, there are some comapatibility items that are shown during setup that may or may not be significant for your purposes.

In my case Paint3d being removed is a deal blocker. I saw that and had to cancel the setup , upgrade.

so \ If you already clicked the 24H2 update offer, then here is how to halt the InProgress update and prevent it from being re-offered.

this will permit you to continue receiving security updates and feature updates just wont give you the 24H2 offer upgrade..

then just set the group policy setting to stick on the 23H2 update. its that simple.

set 3 reg keys to block, then remove them when you are ready.

1. run Command Prompt as Administrator.

2. set 3 regkeys these commands Require 23H2. (and that is the same as meaning block 24H2)

• reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v TargetReleaseVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 1
• reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v TargetReleaseVersionInfo /t REG_SZ /d 23H2
• reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v ProductVersion /t REG_SZ /d "Windows 11"

3. Reboot

now you will notice the 24H2 download is gone and, in my case, I got the 2412 security update instead.

TO undo-and permit 24H2 to be delivered.

open Command Prompt as Administrator

• reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v TargetReleaseVersion
• reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v TargetReleaseVersionInfo
• reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate /f /v ProductVersion

You should hold off on 24h2 for a while, it has caused screen MAJOR screen tearing on many people's devices. (Typically, when they are running multiple things or playing a game.) Try to stay in 23h2 or go to windows 10.
