Anyway to not update to 24H2 but still get security updates?

So install that Reg add will fix my issue of not wanting to upgrade to 24H2? As it will brick my OS.(as i understand it.)

Yes my rig is unable to support 24H2, as my Core 2 Quad 9650 3.0Ghz over clocked at 4.1Ghz for over 10 years now on Asus Formula Maximus II motherboard, dual Samsung Evo 830 in Raid 0, 8 Gigs of CAS 9 Latency Ram etc etc... Upgraded to USB 3.0 with Pcie card. M2 drive as well in x16 slot.with Video Asus Rog R9 390.. Which i got last year practically unused for $25. On ebay, nice upgrade!

Built this when i was a Geek, Tradesman now and don't want to learn to build another.

If I am forced to learn anything it will be Linux OS.

Is just fine playing games. when I so chose. Dont want to upgrade my computer, $$$..

I run Plex, Utorrent, Multi Task with 2 monitors and at times play some games at same time. Don't tell me to upgrade this ancient artifact :)

If "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" is checked, it automatically starts to download 24H2. This is a screenshot from today, there is no separate "Download & Install" button for 24H2 like your screenshot.

Then the "get the latest updates as soon as they're available" includes both the monthly non-security bug fix update and the annual feature update.

My position remains valid. You are more likely to trigger a bug that will force an update on you by giving the OS confusing signals, i.e. by simultaneously telling the OS that you want to "get the latest updates as soon as they're available" and then behind the OS's back by doing registry hacking to stop the update. You are going to confuse the OS and trigger a bug.

So the simplest thing is don't click the "get the latest updates as soon as they're available" button and leave it at that. Then the OS should operate correctly and give you a separate "download and install" button. Then don't click that "download and install" button.

I appreciate all the responses to this question. As I understand them, you won't get it automatically installed immediately. You'd have to select it. There is no way to stop it once they elect to .... um.... can't use that word.... ok, assault you with it and if there are problems.... well, we're on our own. You can still get security updates without getting 24H2 until well the assault. Since I don't have a AI computer and do not desire one, I expect this is going to get ugly.

I hate the update method they use now. It would appear there is no way to protect my computer for said assault. I've had problems with updates before and it isn't something I care to repeat. However, this is informative, so thank you. From reading all this, I've nearly decided to just dump Windows and move to a Linux based OS. Sounds far less invasive that MS. Yes, yes, they all have problems. But so far, I have heard far less from the other fellas. Maybe a Mac?

This is what happens when you listen to some vague rumours and then potentially can do real harm to your own computer trying to bypass the update by doing regedit stuff. Listening to some random guy on the internet telling you to do a regedit when you don't know what you are doing in the first place is the most dangerous thing to do on the internet.

The green stuff is your security updates.

Feature updates like 24h2 (the red stuff) will ALWAYS be under a separate button which you have to individually press to download and install.

This is a lie. I just had my second computer forced to upgrade to Windows 24h2, no option to avoid. Reboot now or reboot later to upgrade, that was it. And for the second time my computer was made unstable and crashed with continuous problems. This on two perfectly stable, new computers. Games, new drivers, etc.. Crashes and BSOD.

Windows 24h2 problems is not a rumor. In my household it has had one hundred percent kill rate on computers I own. Microsoft just hasn't acknowledged how deep the problem lies yet.
