Anyway to not update to 24H2 but still get security updates?

Hey, I have a question about windows Update, is there anyway to stay on 23h2 but still get security updates without upgrading to 24h2 automatically I just have updates pauzed for now but I still want security patches, I've heard there have been a lot of issues on 24h2 so thought id ask. Also other updates just not 24H2

    Yeah it's somehow tried to update my PC to 24H2 this last month, but failed each time luckily for me I guess , since other's seem to be having so many problems with 24H2!

    Anyways, found out from this page there is way to stop it using group policy editor which seems safer than hacking the registry to stop it until it's more stable or Microsoft fixes it.

    So whoever posted on here that u need to manually push button in windows update to upgrade was definitely wrong!

    Sadly, I tried to install 24H2 again today, 03/25/2025. It failed to complete installation. Amazingly, it recognized the failure and UNINSTALLED itself without my involvement!!!

    Improvement???

    I have restored the Registry block. Did get an update for 23H2 today, and it installed and operated without problems.

    Just as FYI - although I also had serious problems attempting to update to earlier versions of 24H2, the March version installed smoothly and has been running without incident.

    Thanks! I just tried again (accidentally) and it failed in the middle. My laptop was docked at the time, so that might be related? The bug was that windows resized when I docked/undocked, so that particular one might not be fixed yet. But I'm glad it's getting better!

    Yes, I will add a registry key for the targeted feature update. If you target 23H2, you will not get 24H2. Here is the registry command for that:

    reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v ProductVersion /t REG_SZ /d "Windows 11" /f && reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v TargetReleaseVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f && reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v TargetReleaseVersionInfo /t REG_SZ /d "23H2" /f

    Thank you! Generally I keep all my computers up to date with all updates, but I already tried 24H2 and it had a specific bug I can't work around, so I need to pause it for now.
