Windows 11 2024 update begins rolling out today

Not quite sure how this fits with a thread about an ANNUAL Update.

Plus, you can set your device such that it will not reboot, except if & when you want that to happen.

The WUs are, also, being changed such that they will be smaller & require fewer restarts to complete.

Yet, another update.... It seems like Windows is trying to kill their installed PC base with update after update. First they told us to get rid of our older PCs to use Windows 11. Despite the fact they run everything except Windows 11. Ok, that comes down to a choice, except it really doesn't. Windows keeps slamming us with updates, keeps telling us (on the update screen) that we can't run Windows 11 (duh!) and keeps sending up clickware to add more useless background information.

I could live with that, I've given some PCs to the grandkids. However, even a brand new high end laptop that I use for business requires almost constant updates. It's getting to the point where if I go on a business trip I have to spend a few hours making sure Microsoft won't sabotage me and kill my batteries on the road with yet, another update. Before you even mention turning them off I've done that - only to have the computer reboot itself in the middle of the night the moment I leave the room.

This is no longer an operating system, it's a cash sucking monster that requires almost slavish devotion to keep it up to date. And then there is Microsoft 365, the "juice loan" of software. You can never just buy it. Nope, they will add some esoteric feature that maybe a professional will use once in a blue moon but still costs another $100 a year to maintain (not counting the time to keep reinstalling when it fails and after 12 hours of customer service you simply are told, "We don't know, just reinstall it - yet again.

I've already given up on the herpes of browsers (edge) that keeps coming back no matter how many times you erase it, edit the registry or use other products to kill it. What is so hard Microsoft about simply giving me an OPERATING SYSTEM that doesn't send me to paywalls, keep requesting I can use it with the android phone I don't have, and keeps requiring more and more personal information?

On the bright side no one who doesn't need this software would ever want to pirate it. It just seems like Microsoft hates its customers or wants to turn all of them into IT workers. I used enjoy helping friends and family get online with Microsoft and their products. Now I simply tell them get any tablet except Surface or use their phones. The PC is just about dead.

Even gamers are going more to consoles to avoid the hassle of Microsoft. Never thought I'd buy a console to play the occasional game but its now on my Christmas list. Between Microsoft and Intel I hate the PC that I spent fifty years loving.
