Problem in network Windows 11 24h2

After updating to the new Windows 11h2, some machines experienced network issues with both cable and Wi-Fi. They connect but don’t get network access and receive an IP address starting with 169…, resulting in no internet or network connection. I updated drivers, firmware, and reset the network settings. The machines’ MAC addresses haven’t changed. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

    I may have this figured out - for my case anyway. The new ADMX templates include 2 new settings related to DNS. I tried the one and that didnt' work, so I tried the other and now I'm always getting DNS. The setting in group policy editor;

    Turn off default IPv6 DNS Servers HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient!DisableIPv6DefaultDnsServers At least Windows Server 2012 Windows 8 or Windows RT If you enable this policy the DNS client will not use the default IPv6 DNS server addresses provided by Windows.

    I enabled this setting to effectively turn off the default IPV6 DNS addresses. WHY??? WHY???? WHY? is this even a thing? And why does it need to be turned off? This should be one of those settings that the unconfigured option should have the default provided dns addresses disabled. OY, Microsoft!

    I am having the DHCP issue on two HP EliteDesk computers using wired Ethernet connection. This is a fresh install of 24H2 from Microsoft ISO. The only workaround is to set static IP address on the network adapter. Using automatic (DHCP) does not work. Both computers worked perfectly fine on Windows 10 and Windows 11 through 23H2.

    Well, Microsoft will release updates today. Do you guys know about the possibility to this issue be addresses on the monthly updates that is about to be released?

    Another thing, It is clear that it is a 24H2 issue, how to correctly report this issue to Microsoft? Is there some special channel to follow, engage?

    Hi, I tried it on 2 desktops, one laptop and one Surface and removed this WinHTTPAutoProxySvc , rebooted the workstations and it worked. Windows 11 23H2 does not have this dependency.

    This service exist in 23H2 too.

    Well, that's a wrinkle with the 23h2's.

    My event viewer showed that service becoming disabled during the update process and then when I looked at the dependencies that was the root one of the group that was causing issue. I'm sure we'll find out something from Microsoft soon-ish with a fix, but first it needs to be acknowledged that users are experiencing it. For my part, I've documented my experience here and in the feedback hub.

    For my device, at least, the "WLAN AutoConfig" wouldn't start because it was dependent on the "Windows Connection Manager," which wouldn't start because it was dependent on "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service."

    That said, I think you're on the right path that WinHTTP should not be in the chain of dependencies.

    EDIT: I went and removed the dependency and disabled WinHTTP. Everything is working well and this seems like the better interim path until Microsoft releases a fix. That service is a potential security risk.
