2024-11-24T13:19:34+00:00 After purchasing and running Norton Driver Updater for the first time, I had this issue on my 2020 vintage HP laptop. I reran Driver Updater, and it flagged 'Intel Smart Sound Technology BUS' as having an issue. Updater had updated to version 10.29.0.011516. I reverted to version 10.29.011261, and the issue was resolved.

2024-11-27T20:18:24+00:00 I have an Asus S16 Zenbook laptop with AMD hx365 AI processor. In my case, I believe that my driver was not up to date (even though it's a new laptop just released on August 1st, 2024). Anyway, I downloaded a new driver a few days ago and the problem has not recurred :
If you have this kind of laptop or a similar laptop with the Realtek ALC3288 driver as listed below is in your laptop, you may need a new driver. This is a very popular sound chip on many laptops right now. Automatic windows updates were not updating my driver - i had to download the new driver manually.
I navigated to my driver download page and clicked "Show All Downloads".
If your laptop has a RealTek sound chip (ALC3288), and the version is lower than 9721.1, then look for a driver update from your Laptop vendor. Alternately, you could even try the Asus driver. I suspect it will probably work, and if it doesn't, you just lose your sound and can try a different driver or revert to your previous driver and try something else.
