Win 11 ver. 24H2 causing Brother scanning driver install to fail. How to fix?

Hi All,

I have a Brother DCP-7065DN multi-function machine, connected to my Windows 11 desktop computer. I was having some problems with a label printer and pursuant to that I disinstalled the Brother software and re-installed it. Since the re-install, the Brother printer driver installed but the scanner driver installation failed. I've tried multiple times.

Brother has noted this as a problem with Windows 11 Version 24H2. (See attached link.)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Nancy

    Right.

By the way, did you try my simpler method:

    Go to Device Mgr

    Double click on Imaging Devices

R click on Brother machine name

    Choose Uninstall

    (Wait for uninstall to finish)

    Restart computer

I have had no trouble since I tried this over a month ago.

Who knows what'll happen the next time they update and "improve" Windows, however. :)

You can download the drivers from Brother for Windows 11. Just search on Brother website for them. Then it will work. I tried the suggested workaround on a brand new computer that I had installed the drivers on, and it worked. Never mind, I see reading through the thread that you got it fixed.

This appears to be an issue because of Windows ceasing the need for individual printer drivers through Mopria Printing. You can see more about that here and find a list of printer models that are certified to work with Windows 11 and other versions that no longer require printer / scanner drivers. For instance my Brother model MFC-J470DW is certified for printing but not scanning. See Mopria dot org.

Thanks all for curing my headache with the fix mentioned here!

I tried the solution on my Brother MFC-J6920DW and MFC-J6940DW. The latter was specially purchased new because the 20DW turned out to be incompatible with Windows 11. Unfortunately, the solution does not work on both machines. I had silent hopes because after a week I had been working with Brother's IT specialists here in the Netherlands, without results.

Unfortunately, we have to wait and see what solution the IT guys from Brother and Microsoft will come up with.

Interesting, as the MFC-J6940DW is MOPRIA certified for the Print/Scan features where the 6920DW is not. One would think that going for this Mopria certification as a basis for compatibility would have satisfied your connectivity. Clearly the issue is outside just drivers - as they state:

" Windows also supports Mopria certified devices making printing and scanning easy whether you are at work, at home, or on-the-go. When installing a new printer or scanner, and a Windows Update is not available, Windows will automatically install the Mopria certified printer or scanner."

    Search your printer here:

I have the same issue with W11 compatible DCP -1612W scanner/printer. All worked fine before 24H2 update and now scanner appears as not installed, drivers fail to installed and I cannot use it anymore even after reinstalling the the whole driver package only the printer works.

After talking to Brother support they told me this issue is caused by MS and I should contact Microsoft as there is nothing they can do...

Thing is I payed for a device - compatible with W11 - and than W11 update killed one of its functions - MS is this a joke? Please fix asap.

FYI: 1610W and 1612W share the same driver. Issue occurs on both LAN and WiFi making the scanner useless.
