Win 11 ver. 24H2 causing Brother scanning driver install to fail. How to fix?

Hi All,

I have a Brother DCP-7065DN multi-function machine, connected to my Windows 11 desktop computer. I was having some problems with a label printer and pursuant to that I disinstalled the Brother software and re-installed it. Since the re-install, the Brother printer driver installed but the scanner driver installation failed. I've tried multiple times.

Brother has noted this as a problem with Windows 11 Version 24H2. (See attached link.)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Nancy

I never scan from device, always from the laptop, and this is what stopped working a few months ago until I found the iPrint&Scan fix

Same. Oliviu - is there a reason why you don’t just scan from the laptop to the printer?

Is there a reason why I should only scan from my laptop? The device has this option, to scan directly to my laptop, it worked until a few months ago, now it doesn't work anymore. That's the problem, not because I want this, because it has to.

Eventually I got it working for my Brother DCP-T420W, more or less. Fo those who are still facing this issue, Below is how I got the drivers working.

    1. Uninstall all brother software including iPrintScan and drivers from control panel and use Uninstall tool from brother website to remove the drivers.

    Link to uninstall tool: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpt420w_all&os=134&dlid=dlf005059_000&flang=4&type3=39

    1. Download and install iPrintScan

    Link to iPrintScan: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpt420w_all&os=134&dlid=dlf103486_000&flang=4&type3=10272

    1. Once iPrintScan is installed run it and it should not show any machines (donot add machines just yet)
    2. Download the Printer Driver from Brother website and install it. It should be a quiet install but you can modify the "dpinst.xml" file and remove quietInstall tag to get the wizard appear.

    Link to Printer Driver: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpt420w_all&os=134&dlid=dlf105100_000&flang=4&type3=408

    1. Once printer driver is installed download "Full Driver & Software Package", double click it to get the files extracted into "Y20A_C2_UW_PP-inst-H1" folder but cancel the installation.

Link to Full Driver & Software Package: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadend.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpt420w_all&os=134&dlid=dlf105099_000&flang=4&type3=11

    1. Use 7zip to extract "Y20A_C2_UW_PP-inst-H1\Msi\ScannerUtilityInstaller.msi" and you should get a new folder within the Msi folder named "ScannerUtilityInstaller" with a file named "BRSCUTIL.EXE".
    2. Run the "BRSCUTIL.EXE" and select the correct dpi (for me it was 1200x1200)
    3. Once the installation is completed you can add the Printer/machine in iPrintScan (Make sure it is connected via USB) and you should have your printer and scanner working in iPrintScan.

Note: This process has only installed the printer for USB connectivity. Later I tried to add the network printer after configuring the printer through it's management page and connecting to Wifi but the Print service does not work. If anyone know how to get the Print service working in iPrintScan please share.

I think i have found a way to get my MFC-L8390CDW's device to PC scan to work.

first i have uninstalled all software and drivers that's brother related.

    Problem:

At this point, if I try to install use the "easy_setup" exe from brothers website i will run into the "wrong argument" error when installing the scanner driver

But i cannot see my scanner under "Imaging devices" to update the driver like the good people in this thread suggested.

    My workaround (YMMV):

    1. uninstalled all software and drivers that's brother related.
    2. At this point I cannot see any device under "Imaging devices" in device manager
    3. control panel -> view scanners and cameras , I cannot see any device here at this point
    4. in the scanners and cameras window, choose add device, choose Microsoft - SCSI Scanner Device
    5. After installing I see a device under "Imaging devices" in device manager
    6. I updated the driver of that device to the brother driver
    7. I rebooted the computer (not sure if this is necessary)
    8. Then i run "easy_setup" again and it went through with no error
    9. I try to run "Machine scan setup" in iprint&scan but it couldn't find the machine for some reason
    10. rebooted
    11. now "Machine scan setup" works fine and I can scan from device to PC. (I had to fix my firewall first but that's not really part of this)

    hope this helps
