Win 11 ver. 24H2 causing Brother scanning driver install to fail. How to fix?

Hi All,

I have a Brother DCP-7065DN multi-function machine, connected to my Windows 11 desktop computer. I was having some problems with a label printer and pursuant to that I disinstalled the Brother software and re-installed it. Since the re-install, the Brother printer driver installed but the scanner driver installation failed. I've tried multiple times.

Brother has noted this as a problem with Windows 11 Version 24H2. (See attached link.)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Nancy

The latest Windows 11 update (KB5055523) did not fix the issue of scanning from the device to the laptop. As before, I can only scan and print by giving the command from the laptop.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your printer/scanner software?

If this doesn't fix it, suggest you try running System File Checker, and possibly DISM commands: CheckHealth," "ScanHealth," and "RestoreHealth.

If not familiar with these commands, and how to run them, search will find many sites with explanation.

    hi Joe.

I was able to get the scanner working on three computers, following instructions on 2nd page of this thread.

    Other users report mixed results.

and now some users are reporting the latest Windows Updates includes a fix [update (KB5055523)]. At the moment, I do not have a PC having this problem, and have not tried this, so I can't verify it works.

If this update has been installed and scanner functionality has not been restored, suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling your printer/scanner software. Good luck.

I ran all the CheckHealth, ScanHealth and RestoreHealth check commands. I also ran System File Checker, uninstalled, checked with cccleaner to make sure nothing remains from the old installation, everything is fine with the operating system. The scanner (MFC-L8690CDW) does not connect to the laptop when I want to scan from the device, to the laptop. From the laptop I can scan and print without problems.

In order to scan from device to computer, you need to register and define your computer with the "Scan to" function at Properties/Scanners and cameras/Scanner settings under printer settings. When you scan to computer from the device, the computer will launch the scan software to receive the file.

    Hey Nancy,

Yeah, I had the same kind of issue with my Brother printer/scanner after a Windows update. Super annoying. Here's what I did to get mine working again — hopefully it helps!

    1. Uninstalled everything Brother-related

I just deleted all the Brother stuff from my computer. Anything that said “Brother,” I got rid of it. Even went into the control panel and made sure it was all gone.

    2. Restarted my computer

Simple, but it helps. I restarted after I removed everything, just to give it a clean start.

    3. Got the drivers from Brother’s website

Went to their support site and downloaded the full package for my model (not just the printer part — the whole thing). Ran the setup and made sure to check anything that said “scanner.”

    4. Ran the setup as admin
I right-clicked on the install file and hit “Run as Administrator.” No idea why it helps, but it did for me.

    5. Tried using the scanner through the Brother app or even Paint

Once it was installed, I didn’t even mess with their old software — I just opened Paint, went to File > From Scanner, and boom, it worked.

    6. (Optional) Used Brother's iPrint&Scan app

Found it in the Microsoft Store. It’s actually pretty decent and helped me scan without all the hassle.

Hope that helps a bit! Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks me later..
