Nothing has been resolved, not even after the latest Microsoft update (KB5053656). The Brother MFC-L8690CDW multifunction printer is only functional for printing and scanning from the laptop. Scanning from the device to the laptop is still not functional, no matter what I do. Is Microsoft making fun of us? This problem has been known since the release of version 24H2 and still nothing is done. I have tried everything that can be tried, all the solutions exposed on this community to solve this problem, but everything was in vain.
Win 11 ver. 24H2 causing Brother scanning driver install to fail. How to fix?
Hi All,
I have a Brother DCP-7065DN multi-function machine, connected to my Windows 11 desktop computer. I was having some problems with a label printer and pursuant to that I disinstalled the Brother software and re-installed it. Since the re-install, the Brother printer driver installed but the scanner driver installation failed. I've tried multiple times.
Brother has noted this as a problem with Windows 11 Version 24H2. (See attached link.)
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thanks.
Nancy

2025-01-08T21:31:32+00:00 Finally working for me. Glad I followed this post. I tried IT Administrators post and was still getting the same errors. Followed up with FoolsGold279 modifications and power cycle my MFC9970CDW device for good measure. It now works whether I initiate a scan from the PC or from the MFC device.
Thanks for all the suggestions folks.

2025-01-08T21:31:09+00:00 Update with success this time!
Following IT Administrators steps, I had to change one step that was stopping me from seeing my Brother MFC device name.
For myself I had to modify step #3. When I proceeded to the final part of #3 I was only seeing the Generic software device and a WSD Scan Device. My Brother device was not showing. In fact, no other devices were being displayed other than the two I mentioned. The CHECKBOX above the device list window was CHECKED and only showing me the Generic software device and a WSD Scan Device. Unchecking the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox then opened up all of the Manufacturers / Models available. I was then able to locate my Brother Model in the split pane windows and complete the steps with success.
I do not know WHY this checkbox is defaulted to being checked. And I do not understand WHY none of the manufactures models are considered "NOT compatible hardware".
Thanks to everyone for their posts.
It is a sad day when the manufacturers websites are unable to post such a simple solution in detail to assist their customers with this major issue.
Good to know and happy that you figured out 1 more tweak there in step 3 and posted here.

2025-01-07T22:49:26+00:00 I saw that a few days back on the internet and attempted the steps.
It does not work for me because when I go back and look for my device name when searching for drivers I only see a Generic software device and a WSD Scan Device. No Brother machine is listed.
That might work if your drivers were installed PRIOR to updating the computers OS. But my computer is new and was already updated. So the drivers have never been installed.
Thanks for posting it though. Maybe it will be helpful for someone else.
I have searched online a bunch of times and am giving up until MS or Brother fixes the issue.
I may just end up buying a NEW Multifunction printer in a few months if they do not fix the issue.

2025-01-05T04:24:45+00:00 My apologies to all who replied to my OP; I have updated my email address in my Microsoft account but this forum is still using an old email address (anybody know how to fix THAT, lol?), so I only noticed today, when checking the old email account, that users had responded to my OP.
I have located a fix for this that works for me (don't recall now where I learned it):
Go to Device Manager
Double click on Imaging Devices
Right click on Brother machine name
Choose Uninstall Device...
Restart computer
If this works for you, I recommend you keep these instructions handy as the problem may reassert itself if you ever have to re-install the Brother software.
Hope this helps!
