Win 11 ver. 24H2 causing Brother scanning driver install to fail. How to fix?

Hi All,

I have a Brother DCP-7065DN multi-function machine, connected to my Windows 11 desktop computer. I was having some problems with a label printer and pursuant to that I disinstalled the Brother software and re-installed it. Since the re-install, the Brother printer driver installed but the scanner driver installation failed. I've tried multiple times.

Brother has noted this as a problem with Windows 11 Version 24H2. (See attached link.)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

    FIX!! - Resolved for me!
I also have a Brother MFC9970CDW and the same issue as everybody else when installing Win 11 24H2. Initially (months ago) I rolled it back and the scanner driver recommenced normal operation. Tried the upgrade "again" this week to find the exact same issue still exists. Did further google research (here and elsewhere) found a small snippet that I followed as per below -

Open Device Manager and go to Imaging Devices open and select your scanner (Brother in my case).

Right Click and select Disable Device*.* Right Click again and select Update Driver

    Now the important steps.
Select Browse my Computer for Drivers, Select the folder with your existing brother Drivers. In my case C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother (include subfolders)

Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my Computer

This should present you with your scanner/printer. Select printer then Next- This should reinstall the drivers - this seems to be the critical step that is NOT achieved when uninstalling/reinstalling using the Brother supplied apps.
Now renable the device (Right Click and select Enable Device)

and reboot the machine. The scanner driver is now picked up, and all my brother Apps are working again. This seems to be an "order" of events things, but somehow this does not make sense. Come on Microsoft lift your game.

Please let others know if this works for you

    Thanks!! it worked for me!

I agree. That was the solution I received also. A printer/ scanner that worked perfectly fine before this so-called update has caused me to lose so much time and makes my printer/scanner almost useless. What the heck is Microsoft trying to prove here?

Same problem with Brother MFC-J470DW. With all the people having this problem it would seem Microsoft should upgrade the severity level of the bug. I had an important zoom meet this morning. Half an hour prior to the meeting I received an email saying I had to sign and scan an important document. Well, I couldn't scan it!

    MS disregard for its customers!

So is there an ETA for the fix?

Agree. Well 24H2 has affected thousands of businesses and students alike from daily operations of a seemly benign little update 24H2 problem. The havoc continues. This fix does not solve my problem. The CC4 software appears and disappears when it chooses. Loaded and reloaded - turned off and turned on , totally deleted and re installed - Like a bunch of monkeys... BS. SEE the list of printers reported from BROTHER. Even BROTHER does not report this on the download page ! to atleast stop you and inform you before you get into all this grief. Over 250 Printer models affected !! Sold more printers lately?? - Its been 3 months !! This is worthy of a class action. And all these work arounds - great. whats your time worth! How much IT time did you pay to get this working. The Scanner Software does not work anymore - it did in WIN 10 - for 10 years and PRE 24H2. Even Brother posting this list is fact enough of the MAJOR issue here. Spent another two hours to chat with BROTHER... add your two, four, six hours to the other 10,000 ++other users. Good grief.

    Definitely try this fix first.

It's simple and easy to try.

My only issue was with scanning using the Brother ContolCenter4 program.

    CC4-202 Error

Wish I would have found this months ago!

    1. Finish the installation of your printer driver full package normally (Checked on 24H2, OS Build 26100.2605 - Dec 10,2024 Windows updated PC) and it will end up with only scanner driver installation failed. (Basically it won't scan from Control Center 4 scanner app and if you want to check, open 'Brother Utilities'-->Tools-->Installation Diagnostics, it will tell you only Scanner driver installation failed).
    2. Go to 'Device Manager' --> Imaging devices --> Right click on 'Your printer name' --> Disable device
    3. Again Right click on it, but this time click on Update driver --> Browse my computer for drivers --> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer --> on next window you should already have your printer name, just select and click on Next.
    4. On next screen you will see successfully installed a driver and click on close, Imaging device which you have just disabled will be enabled by system and then close everything, do a restart once.
    5. Just use Control Centre 4 as you usually used to scan something and it will work this time.

Found the same solution on the Canon website and decided to try it on my MFC-9340CDW. The only thing I did different was to not disable it in the Device Manager. Just selected Update driver and then did a restart. Voila! it was fixed.
