I do enjoy reading the replies...they will never just admit that their software is ****. Which is the reason for issues 90% of the time
Since Windows 11 24H2 update everything runs slow and takes longer to load

Ever since this update, my system takes a long time before it's fully up to speed. I'm talking 10 minutes or more. Even the opening screen where I enter my PIN takes longer to come up. After entering the pin, it takes a while for the app icons to show on the desktop and even then the taskbar arrives later. I can't get Outlook or Chrome to launch right away. It can take minutes for them to load and be responsive.
Even after the system is functioning more normally, it is still slower than before the update. Emails take a few seconds longer to open up. Files take longer to open. Chrome tabs take longer to show.
I've checked Task Manager. My CPU is at less than 10% and my RAM at 59% with apps open. Hard disk doesn't show a lot of activity. I've looked at processes and don't see anything that's consuming a lot of resources. Nothing obvious is showing up. I've made sure to turn off a lot of apps at start up that were unnecessary.
I've also turned off sys.main. Before that, everything was even slower and more annoying than what I have already described. Two other annoying things I've discovered. Microsoft turned off Malwarebytes and turned on Defender anti-virus without my permission. It also turned on Edge. None of these things should have been activated without asking my permission. The update should keep every app the way it was either turned on or off.
24H2 has changed something in my computer that affects all activity and load times. It is not hardware related.
I have a fairly fast cpu, ram and SSD disk access speed. This is a gaming computer. It worked fast before the update. I've made a few adjustments to speed things up but those were not necessary before 24H2.

I've discovered that all my software runs slower and is less responsive since the 24H2 update. This includes Outlook and Word (computer version, not 365) and Chrome among others. Outlook is really slow in bringing up emails sometimes. Chrome can be delayed in displaying web pages. When I start up the computer, the hard drive is at 100% for over 10 minutes! There is something deep down inside of Windows 11 24H2 that appears to undermine all aspects of how a computer operates but it does not do this equally. That means some computers may work fine in certain areas but not others. After reading all the replies to my original post which have been overwhelming, I've decided to write a snailmail (yes, real mail with a stamp) to Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft. I've written to CEO's of other major corporations in the past and had good results with their responses and fixes including Walmart and United Airlines. Worth a try since MS development team has been unresponsive to the need for major core improvements and fixes to Windows. Don

2024-12-23T23:21:40+00:00 search indexing is bugged in windows 11 24H2 which is causing apps to load very slowly, sometimes taking several minutes. I checked for corrupt files, there were none. This is on intel optane drive.
several times per day, when clicking on an app it takes several minutes for it to open. task manager reveals 'search indexing" using resources during this delay, and going to search indexing.. options advanced, you can watch it reindexing hundreds of thousands of files, starting from zero. Deleting/rebuilding search indexer only temporarily fixes the problem, until it bugs again. After few hours doing something else, then click on an app, and again takes few to several minutes for app to start and it is reindexing as if I hit delete/rebuild button. I may try disabling search index next time I have an update with a bugged search index.
The fix was to roll back and get rid of windows 11 24h2 until microsoft addresses this search index bug.

I've got a 5800x3d paired with a 6800xt and 32gb of 3600 ddr4 and prior to installing 24h2 this pc was very fast and responsive and was great for gaming at 1440p. After the update it runs like ****. As soon as my pc boots up and I log in just the stuff that starts up automatically makes my cpu usage spike to like 80% and opening up a browser window takes like a full minute. It's practically unusable. Microsoft needs to a. Fix this **** and b. Issue the most groveling **** kissing apology in the history of mankind. There's no excuse for this ****.

2024-12-21T18:54:13+00:00 Even if you have a fast SSD, Windows 11 may have problems with file storage and fragmentation in some cases, especially after large updates. You can try optimizing the drive
Are you seriously a technician? An SSD never needs to be fragmented. Defragmentation only matters for drives that use a physical mechanism, like a read/write head, to write out and read in data. It's because by keeping relevant data blocks adjacent to one another the head does not need to move around as much along the disk surface!
The only thing the "optimize" function does on an SSD that's useful is execute the TRIM function, but that won't affect read speed.
