Since Windows 11 24H2 update everything runs slow and takes longer to load

Ever since this update, my system takes a long time before it's fully up to speed. I'm talking 10 minutes or more. Even the opening screen where I enter my PIN takes longer to come up. After entering the pin, it takes a while for the app icons to show on the desktop and even then the taskbar arrives later. I can't get Outlook or Chrome to launch right away. It can take minutes for them to load and be responsive.

Even after the system is functioning more normally, it is still slower than before the update. Emails take a few seconds longer to open up. Files take longer to open. Chrome tabs take longer to show.

I've checked Task Manager. My CPU is at less than 10% and my RAM at 59% with apps open. Hard disk doesn't show a lot of activity. I've looked at processes and don't see anything that's consuming a lot of resources. Nothing obvious is showing up. I've made sure to turn off a lot of apps at start up that were unnecessary.

I've also turned off sys.main. Before that, everything was even slower and more annoying than what I have already described. Two other annoying things I've discovered. Microsoft turned off Malwarebytes and turned on Defender anti-virus without my permission. It also turned on Edge. None of these things should have been activated without asking my permission. The update should keep every app the way it was either turned on or off.

24H2 has changed something in my computer that affects all activity and load times. It is not hardware related.

I have a fairly fast cpu, ram and SSD disk access speed. This is a gaming computer. It worked fast before the update. I've made a few adjustments to speed things up but those were not necessary before 24H2.

I do enjoy reading the replies...they will never just admit that their software is ****. Which is the reason for issues 90% of the time

Moises Ariel Duarte Teran who replied below which this site will not let me reply to is right. I received the auto update of the latest revision to 24H2 on Tuesday and my system is now operating much better. Most of the issues I originally complained about which started this thread appear to be resolved. So Microsuck finally listened and made some changes. It would be interesting if someone who is a serious techie could compare what changed between 24H2 and the latest revision to it this week which address most of the issues. That would be good to identify.

There is one lagging issue I've discovered. While looking at an article in a Chrome tab (I generally keep 80 tabs running), the fan on my laptop goes on and Chrome freezes for a while. Keep in mind that I always run that many tabs and did not experience this freezing issue in 23H2. I use a gaming laptop so there is plenty of capacity. I opened Task Manager. The CPU was going up to 20% from 5%. Clearly that shouldn't have caused a freeze. My laptop never breaks out a sweat. RAM was running about 50%% which is to be expected with the number of tabs I'm running. The disk was seeing some unexpected usage in the 10% to 15% range though I wasn't saving anything. All those numbers are on the low side so they don't explain the freeze.

Looking at processes I noticed number one on the list was System. Checked properties for that listing and it brought up ntoskrnl.exe which is the NT Kernal and System application. Something in core NT was causing this problem. It looks like the 24H2 issues may all trace back to some issue with the NT backbone which has been around for a long time. That's my guess but I'm not a techie so it would be interesting to hear some experts take on this.

Hi Mark,

You're right I did install 24H2 (Build 26100.2605) onto another PC a Dell Laptop Inspiron.
Within the Rufus USB creation, it did ask if i wanted to turn off Bitlocker, which I did, and keep my apps.
Installation went fine, BUT ....

Although Bitlocker is NOT running, the laptop takes twice as much time to be ready, and generally is very slow on most of tasks.
As it doesn't need that much speed, i'll keep it running as is, expecting MS to make a Windows Update to fix it.

BITLOCKER is NOT the cause of slowiness!!

I tried 24H2 on my wife PC, and result is identical, twice as slow, and on top of this the SMB connections to the Home NAS donot work anymore.
I download back the Acronis backup of windows 10 to it.

I've had Bitlocker before and even had it on slower computers with mechanical hard drives, yet 24H2 seems to have made so much slower on what is a newer Microsoft tablet with lot of capability.

Same problem and all my drivers are up to date. When is Microsoft going to take responsibility for issues instead of blaming it on the end user. Microsoft does not test features and updates, they simply release them and then let the customer test and report problems. It is not the computer, drivers or software. It is the OS that keeps causing problems. After Edge update, Edge started eating memory and would freeze. The features update slowed my laptop to and I spent hours going to registry to disable some of the changes to fix my laptop. I have a AMD Ryzen 5 with 8gb RAM, no additional programs running in the background and my system runs like an 8088 on Windows 3. The OS takes 54% of memory with a clean boot.
