Windows installation failed after trying many different ways to Install & Download error - 0x80070002

I started getting Download error - 0x80070002 every time i would try to update windows. And then the MS store stopped working. And whenever i try to open a media file i get the message package couldn't be registered. I tried every single suggestion on the various MS tech support pages.

I also tried resetting and also reinstalling windows - both from the power shell, from a downloaded disk image, and from online. And every single time i tried, it says Operation Failed. Or Windows was not able to be installed. I have tried literally everything and don't know what to do. Are there any suggestions please?

Thanks, please do the following:

  • Download cbsfix2.reg and save it to a folder on the C drive -- e.g., C:\Fixes
  • Download AdvancedRun from Nirsoft and run it.
  • Using AdvancedRun, launch c:\windows\regedit.exe as TrustedInstaller (see Screenshot)
  • In the Regedit window, click File, and click Import...
  • Dismiss the "Location is not available" message box by clicking OK.
  • In the "Import Registry File" window, in the "File name" text box, type C:\Fixes\cbsfix2.reg and press Enter.
  • After the import is successful, exit Regedit.
  • Restart Windows.

Try to install updates.

    Hi,

    We're not done yet. Please do the following.

    Please download Acelogix Regbak and backup the registry.

    Then, do the following:

    • Download cbsfix.reg and save it to a folder on the C drive -- e.g., C:\Fixes
    • Download AdvancedRun from Nirsoft and run it.
    • Using AdvancedRun, launch c:\windows\regedit.exe as TrustedInstaller (see Screenshot)
    • In the Regedit window, click File, and click Import...
    • Dismiss the "Location is not available" message box by clicking OK.
    • In the "Import Registry File" window, in the "File name" text box, type C:\Fixes\cbsfix.reg and press Enter.
    • After the import is successful, exit Regedit.

    Please run the SFCFix package below.

    1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro of Sysnative forums) and save this to your Desktop.

    1. Download the file, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.

     

    1. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.  [See illustration image: https://imgur.com/a/7i4Y8g8]

     

    1. When you see the prompt "Will you allow SFCFix to communicate with Sysnative servers?",  type "n" for no. Press Enter to continue.

     

    1. SFCFix will now process the script. It will take some time to complete. Upload the output file SFCFix.txt to your OneDrive.

     

    1. Restart Windows and attempt to install updates.

     

    (Will post the remaining fix after seeing the above log.)

    Hi,

    Unfortunately, CBS corruption exists. This has to be fixed, or the 24H2 setup can't run correctly.

    Please do this:

    Launch Settings > System > Recovery. Under "Fix problems using Windows Update", select "Reinstall now."

    It will likely fail with the error code 0x8007001F.

    Then, share the following log:

    C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log

    Note:

    If you don't want to troubleshoot this, you can clean install 24H2 using the USB setup disk after backing up your data.
