Getting the old version of Notepad on Windows 11

Hello,

I am a blind user who frequently uses the Notepad application. On my Windows 11 laptop, I’m having difficulty to read the content and Braille. I can hear it with my screen reader, but I can’t read it properly. So, when I want to write code properly, I use my Windows 10 PC. Is there a way to have the old version of Notepad? If not, is there any alternative?

This is tested and working, no uninstallation necessary.

Open Settings > Apps

In the center pane select Advanced app settings > App execution aliases

Toggle off Notepad

Then go to the old Notepad at C:\Windows\Notepad.exe and right click > Pin to the taskbar/Pin to start/Send to Desktop

Launch the old Notepad from the shortcut you just created

not working for me and I find no other wait to have the old windows 10 notepad.

    Some of these may have worked 2 year ago, but none of them work now. I'm very frustrated and can't believe that Microsoft would purposefully prevent anyone from using the old notepad on Windows 11, but apparently that's exactly what they've done. I have tried everything here. I've hired IT professionals to do everything they can to get the old Notepad to work on Windows 11. No matter what I do, I get a message that the app is not allowed.

    For my home machine I'm sticking with Windows 10. For work, the IT people modified the configuration so that the new notepad works similarly to the only one in that it doesn't open up a new tab or save old tabs, but just has one tab open at a time. But it still doesn't fully solve my problem because there are fonts and italics and bold, and half the reason I use the old notepad is to strip all those from the text so I can copy and paste.

    FRUSTRATING!!!!!!

    I can't do this because as of today my Win 11 Pro install no longer brings up a function setting or notepad. I have no idea why or what to do.
