Windows 11 Sign Issues with Challenge Phrase

Hi,

I am trying to sign into my laptop as normal, but it says my password has been entered incorrectly so I have to enter the challenge phrase A1B2C3 and then my password. I know my password is correct but it keeps locking me out saying it is incorrect. I've followed Windows 11 tutorials to fix login issues but none mention the challenge phrase, which seems to be our issue.

further reading on this, it may not be a definite security deficiency, IF windows still counts the login attempts by EITHER password OR pin, as failed attempts, and locks the machine up upon appropriate number of attempts.

BUT, i SHOULD have the option to limit attempts to just be PIN, and not password..

    ...

SO, i set this up, and started to TEST this. AFTER FIVE ATTEMPTS, microsoft gives me the challenge phrase, and even allows me to enter my PASSWORD (bypassing the PIN in windows "hello") as login.

    THIS IS NUTS !

I specifically WANT the machine to lock up after 10 unsuccessful attempts ...

I casually wondered about this when I've had to deal with the problem (now with two separate clients).

I thought it seemed like a security flaw, and upon further consideration, it is very definitely a SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUE.

    Windows 11 home

    group policy editor -

ACCOUNT LOCKOUT threshold 10 attempts. that means, if 10 wrong attempts, computer locks up for 5 minutes (lockout duration).

I WANT this behavior, it is a tablet pc, and if it is traveling, nobody can use brute force to break in.

SO, i set this up, and started to TEST this. AFTER FIVE ATTEMPTS, microsoft gives me the challenge phrase, and even allows me to enter my PASSWORD (bypassing the PIN in windows "hello") as login.

    THIS IS NUTS !

I specifically WANT the machine to lock up after 10 unsuccessful attempts, and do not want alternatives to get in (passwords are all backed up, PINS are all backed up, so forgetting is not an issue)

HOW to enforce the policies i set up in group policy editor?

    thanks

There was a window update and from then, login screen indicates that the PIN does not work!

I have to always use single sign-on (OTP sent to email!) and this is really a nuisance!

I am trying to set the new PIN and after following all the process, i get an error that there was some error and i need to try after a while!

I have spent now a whole 3 days setting-up new PIN and its still not successful!

    Regretting why i updated windows!
