I ran into this issue today on Windows 11 24H2.
I typed “ABC123”, nothing happened. Then, I typed “123ABC”, nothing happened. Finally, I typed “A1B2C3” and it allowed me to type my PIN in.

Hi,
I am trying to sign into my laptop as normal, but it says my password has been entered incorrectly so I have to enter the challenge phrase A1B2C3 and then my password. I know my password is correct but it keeps locking me out saying it is incorrect. I've followed Windows 11 tutorials to fix login issues but none mention the challenge phrase, which seems to be our issue.

I'm locked out of my laptop
Yes, but that is time consuming and a lot of people actually started over and downloaded a newer version of Windows and lost all their stored data in the process. Not a good use of time and effort. The directions are vague and ambiguous. One simply regards the A!....C3 as the answer to the challenge phrase and type that in the box. I wasted hours trying to figure it out.

Did your type in the A1B2C3 first? That is supposed to unlock so you can enter your password. I agree that we were not told anywhere about this level of security and I spent days looking at that instruction and other ways to try and find out what it meant. When someone here pointed out that the challenge phrase is the numbers and letters right there on the page is the answer to the challenge question and that's all I needed to be allowed to enter my password and go from there.
I need a phrase
