If you look at the screenshot that is not your issue. The light comes on but still shows the gray box.
I am experiencing the same thing and uninstalling windows updates is not working.

Both my husband and I have Lenovo laptops (S340-15IIL Touch Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81WW and IdeaPad 5i) and after the latest windows update our integrated cameras do not work in any apps or programs. We have tried all the troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, F8, etc.
When we view the camera in settings it has a solid gray box (the indicator light shows next to the camera showing it is in use). Also have tried the Camera app and experience the same gray box. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

Yes. I get the same gray box. I suspect Lenovo downed the original cameras that came with the iPad if you chose not to update your warrantee plan with them. Lenovo pre-installed Mcaffee acts terrible with other software if you don't update the subscription. It's not enough to sell the consumer a $5 to $6 hundred dollar laptop, but then they want you on a subscription paying them $12 to $15 hundred a year in addition. Then, good luck reaching them if you have questions. I uninstalled McAfee and I am thinking of testing the laptop out with an external camera. Even though they conceal it, Lenovo has the camera basically self-destruct if the renewal is not purchased. Lenovo in their proprietary greed, may have the ability to block any other camera system. If that is the case, which it probably is the case, I will have to re-format the hard disk and install a clean Windows copy and get rid of the Lenovo pre-installed ****. They should not have the power to sell cameras, then corrupt them, and then re-sell the user with a whole new camera. This business needs something like weights and measures that comes down from the feds when common folk buy gasoline. This is no different. The pre-installed camera should be available for re-installation or other procedures. People who bought and paid for it should not be deprived access to it. But we are??
Yes, agree with your suggestions and discovery; pinch (gently), the bezel from the outside and inside (around the camera). The distortion disappears and camera is working again.
It could be a hardware issue; eg. wire connector, etc; not software problem, especially when Windows 11 Device Manager shows webcam is working.
I encountered this issue since Year 2022 after every Windows 11 update.
I'm stuck with this right now. I rolled back the updates but didn't have any luck getting my camera recognized. Do you remember which updates you uninstalled?
Hi NicoleF_ATL,
I have been having the same problem for past 2 months. I also tried uninstalling recent updates but turns out is just a temporary workaround. Today I finally called Lenovo Customer Care they guided me and helped to resolve this. Let me share the method for anyone that might find this helpful.
The problem occurs because of Window's incompetency to delete old drivers once new ones are installed. The issue was I had 2 different drivers installed for the same camera. To resolve ,I deleted the driver that was dated earlier (in my case May 22) then installed the new driver (dated June 23)
TO do this, Go to device manager --> Camera -- > Integrated Camera --> Update driver ---> Browse --> Pick from a list of available drivers. ---> delete old driver --> restart computer --> go to device manger again --> install latest driver for "Integrated Camera".
TO further secure my PC from this issue, I completely disabled the windows update services too and updated BIOS to latest version.
This helped me in resolving the issue. Hope it works out for you too.
