Both my husband and I have Lenovo laptops (S340-15IIL Touch Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81WW and IdeaPad 5i) and after the latest windows update our integrated cameras do not work in any apps or programs. We have tried all the troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, F8, etc.
When we view the camera in settings it has a solid gray box (the indicator light shows next to the camera showing it is in use). Also have tried the Camera app and experience the same gray box. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

This is brilliant. Wow I have been struggling with this issue for quite a while. Thanks a ton,
Although probably not exact the same problem, but my webcam showed after start of (e.g.) the camera program a fraction of a second a normal view, then it freezes with distortion lines. A lot of research was executed, drivers were updated and even linux (Ubuntu 20.xx) was tried. Nothing helped. I was at the point of just buying an external USB webcam but decided to try it once again.
Long story short: the bezel on top of the screen where the webcam sits is probably of sub-quality material. Press (very careful!!!) the bezel from the outsides to the camera. The distortion disappears and the camera is working again.
Other checks you could do:
-->Lenovo S340-15IWL type 81N8 laptop, running Windows 11, McAfee antivirus
Hope this helps someone, best,
Gertjan
There are feedbacks on (1.1) Lenovo's website from consumers, and (1.2) Microsoft community, on above problem. 1 possible solution from Microsoft's community, and Lenovo's website, is about "Pinching" or "lightly pressing with thumb and finger" on screen frame (bezel) area around the webcam.
It could be a hardware issue; eg. wire connector, etc; not software problem, especially when Device Manager shows webcam is still working.
I did as suggested, and solved my webcam problem, which caused no video after every Windows 11 update. I encountered this issue since Year 2022, for almost every Windows 11 update.
I attached a picture as reference; take note red colour rectangular box around webcam. This is the area to "pinch".
