Windows 11 New Media Player

Hello!

I used Groove Music.

Today, I received the new Media Player which replaced Groove Music.

It correctly found my music and videos as I have included them in the Libraries.

Unfortunately, it is buggy.

For instance, when I click on Artists, it says that it could not find any content.

Also, it stucks when I click on an artist or album

Do you have similar issues?

Should I just wait a little bit, maybe they are going to provide updates and fixes?

I have tried resetting the app 2 times, but still the same problems.

EDIT [19.5.2022]: There was some improvements in my experience with Media Player.

Some day ago, the Media Player started anew. FIrst, it scanned again from scratch my Music library.

For 5-10 minutes, it used a lot of CPU and RAM. Then when it was done, I could see the Artists and it did not say that it couldnt find any music.

But still it is not completely stable. Very often, when I click on an Album or Artist, it freezes or crashes.

So, still I am anxiously waiting if it will get stable in the future.

But for now, I am happy that I can listen to music again.

DId this update also happen to you?

EDIT [11.9.2022]: Overall, my experience with Media Player has improved a lot.

Now, I can play all my music.

There are now 3 issues remaining as I can see them at least:

  1. Often, when I click to play an album, it freezes. I have to close and restart the app, and then I can play the same album. The same album appears when I click on the Home link.
  2. I also noticed this error: The run times of albums and others, are wrong! They do not show the actual value as I inspected them.
  3. Unfortunately, and this has not been addresses to me so far, I do not have Artists art. Wherever there is an artist, it just shows nothing. In Groove Music, I used to have those and they were beautiful.

    Good point. I've just used it for audio so far, but I am running it on Windows 11. I have a Cyberlink PowerDVD program for video (that has it's own set of quirks).

    I'd heard of Potplayer, but never looked at it.

    Just seen their web page. I notice it supports up to Windows 8.1. !!!!!!

    Do you use it for video or just music?

    I just started using PotPlayer. Weird name, but so far so good. I still use the old Windows Media Player for ripping CDs, but had to give up on the new Windows music programs. Simply awful.

    Do you still see the Track and Album views OK? I do, but the artist view is borked.

    I just started looking at alternative.

    MediaMonkey looks quite impressive, and stable. Gives tons of info also about albums artists etc.

    Not a bad interface either.

    Maybe it will do until MS fix Media Player (If they ever acknowledge theres an issue)

    I'm currently on Build 22000.588.

    It's very frustrating agree. IMO Windows development seems to be going backwards these days. The new Photo app on Windows 11 has just dropped red-eye removal and spot fix. Two of my most widely used features....Why?

    Anyway I'm pleased to say Media Player (Groove) is now working for me since the latest Windows Updates (Start of March 2022). I have a suspicion it has trouble co-existing and indexing against the older WMP. But now both work fine for me.
