Windows 11 New Media Player

Hello!

I used Groove Music.

Today, I received the new Media Player which replaced Groove Music.

It correctly found my music and videos as I have included them in the Libraries.

Unfortunately, it is buggy.

For instance, when I click on Artists, it says that it could not find any content.

Also, it stucks when I click on an artist or album

Do you have similar issues?

Should I just wait a little bit, maybe they are going to provide updates and fixes?

I have tried resetting the app 2 times, but still the same problems.

EDIT [19.5.2022]: There was some improvements in my experience with Media Player.

Some day ago, the Media Player started anew. FIrst, it scanned again from scratch my Music library.

For 5-10 minutes, it used a lot of CPU and RAM. Then when it was done, I could see the Artists and it did not say that it couldnt find any music.

But still it is not completely stable. Very often, when I click on an Album or Artist, it freezes or crashes.

So, still I am anxiously waiting if it will get stable in the future.

But for now, I am happy that I can listen to music again.

DId this update also happen to you?

EDIT [11.9.2022]: Overall, my experience with Media Player has improved a lot.

Now, I can play all my music.

There are now 3 issues remaining as I can see them at least:

  1. Often, when I click to play an album, it freezes. I have to close and restart the app, and then I can play the same album. The same album appears when I click on the Home link.
  2. I also noticed this error: The run times of albums and others, are wrong! They do not show the actual value as I inspected them.
  3. Unfortunately, and this has not been addresses to me so far, I do not have Artists art. Wherever there is an artist, it just shows nothing. In Groove Music, I used to have those and they were beautiful.

    It really has improved a lot. Recently they added Sort by Date Added, which was something I missed from Groove. I still have very occasional crashes, but it is far more stable than it was. My current list of things I'd like to see:

    • A "Sort name" like Groove had, which allows you to ignore The in album names, or put albums together that aren't alphabetical (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, etc.)
    • A way to edit the Artist images, which Media Player, Groove, and lots of other players get wrong (displaying a picture of Al Green in a folder for All Ambient, for instance).
    • Any others?

    I did try Grrove on W11. But it would keep on updating it to the new Media Player. I tried blocking 'other updates' but it still seemd to blitz Groove with Media Player.

    Because it the njust started working, I'm happy tto go with that.
    Still think Media Player is a bit simplistic. I prefer Media Monkey now, at least that doesn't pund my system on startup.

    And theres a ton of information it seems to provide about artists, albums and other incidental stuff. Sometimes I like that, other times I just want it to play the damned music!

    Here are the instructions to revert to Groove Music...

    • Uninstall the new Media Player.
    • Go to https://store.rg-adguard.net
    • Ensure that the first drop-down box in the website has URL (link) selected.
    • Enter "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/groove-music/9wzdncrfj3pt" as the search term.
    • The second drop-down box can stay as "RP"
    • Search for "Microsoft.ZuneMusic_2019.21102.11411.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.AppxBundle", it is towards the bottom of the list
    • If you are using Edge, it may block the download as unsafe, at that point copy the link from that download notification window.
    • Click on the file you downloaded and you'll see an install prompt that asks you to install the program.
    • Install the program and open it. Voila back to the old Groove Music. :)

    Same issue here. I have 2 Windows 11 machines. Both are configured identically to use the local music folder (c:\users<username>\OneDrive\Music) and both are configured with Onedrive to "Always keep Files on this device." My desktop works in this configuration, but my laptop does not. Oddly, my laptop was working a couple weeks ago and now I can continue to play songs with the play and skip buttons, but it says "We couldn't find any music" in the main pane. Back when the laptop was functioning, all I did was click "Shuffle and play," so it's still playing that playlist.
