BSOD after trying to install a game from the Xbox application

Hi there,

I made a quick search and I can tell other people around the world (I'm French) are having the same problem.

Happened first when I tried installing the Guardians of the galaxy game from the Gamepass section.

Precision : My games are stored on an internal SSD.

Had a first BSOD with the error code "Thread system exception not handled"

Went into safe boot trying to investigate this. Whocrashed showed it was related to the system driver "ftlmgr.exe"

I then uninstalled my anti-virus, as I read it was often related to this and rebooted.

BSOD again.

Went to safe boot again, running a sfc scannow and dsim => Got no effect.

So after an evening of self-infliged hairpulling, I dropped my PC at a professional's store.

The guy then told me my system SSD (not the one containing my games) was unstable, cloned the disk and installed a new one with a fresh Windows installation.

I happily brought my PC back home, trying to get my games detected by the Xbox App (without success BTW) and the same BSOD error code was back.

I went in safe boot again, with my internet connection off and it didn't crash before I reactivated it.

Looks like something's running globally because as I said, I found many recent threads about this exact problem

Does someone have any intel about it and/or a fix ?

    Hi,

    It may help to look at the minidump files from the blue screen crashes.

    Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

    Here's a link on using OneDrive:

    If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop.

    Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

    Can you uninstall Avira again to remove the Avira drivers from the crash and in case uninstalling Avira may leave an Avira driver behind.

    Then, when the crash can you also provide the following file which has more information on the crash:

    C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

    The memory.dmp file will be quite large, you could zip and compress the memory.dmp file with a third party application such as 7-Zip.

    The xvdd.sys appears to be involved in the crash and looking at a dump file with the Avira drivers removed may shed more light on this.

    The xvdd.sys is a Microsoft Game Services driver (Microsoft Gaming Filesystem Driver) which may explain the reference to the fltmgr.sys.

    As I said, I already tried unistalling Avira and the same BSOD with the same error code occured, except it was only ftlmgr.exe the cause of the crash.

    Plus, as it is a fresh Windows installation, I had to reinstall Avira so it definitely was the latest version already.

    The driver that appears to cause the crash is the avgntflt.sys :

    *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgntflt.sys

    The avgntflt.sys appears to be an Avira driver so try uninstalling Avira and use Windows built-in antivirus and firewall.

    Afterwards you could try reinstalling Avira using the latest version.

    I already tried uninstalling any antivirus before the PC store guy intervened so it's not the solution.
