Cursor moves to left or selects all text when renaming files in windows explorer. Windows 11

Hi,

I am struggling with a new issue in File Explorer. I have recently updated to Windows 11, but I think this issue has started since this version update.

When I try to rename a file or folder in Windows file explorer, I am unable to place my cursor at a particular point in the filename - eg to insert some letters or numbers.

Instead, wherever I place my cursor, within a second, the whole file name has been selected, which means I start typing a new filename from scratch. This is different to how it has previously behaved, and very annoying.

A related issue - when I am renaming a file saving a file from within a program, a slightly different issue occurs. I put my cursor at the end of a filename, eg,to add a new version number to the filename, but the cursor jumps to the left - to the start of the filename.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Yes, and that is a real problem if you are to rename many files in one go. You have to waaaiiiiit for the sync, before renaming the next one. And if you are too quick or forget this tedious process, you are penalized.

    This creates inefficiencies that add up and make people frustrated with what should be a simple task. MS has not fixed this or any of the other issues that I've had since they introduced Teams and forced everyone to use OneDrive. The complete lack of a response is exhausting.

    It started to happen with Windows 11 in my notebook.

    But seems it might not be OneDrive - causing this, for the following reasons/facts/test results:

    • all the documents/etc were in OneDrive before the upgrade as well, with no such "misbehavior" when it was Windows 10
    • I've connected through a CitrixDesktop to a host that's "Windows Server 2019" - and did F2 to rename the same document - no such misbehavior

    It rather seems like someone in the Windows 11 team in the MS "decided" that it should be default "new feature" and by this feature MS platform will be ahead of other OS vendors and people using MAC/Linux will start to move to Windows platform.

    And plus some other "new features" like "non-modifiable taskbar location", Start Menu (unless you want to dig out some JSON scripts and modify them/etc

    Great, now I have to keep pressing F5 in Windows Explorer whenever I do anything (save files to a folder, rename a file etc) to refresh it and show the change. You're absolutely killing me Microsoft.
