Sorting in Task manager is extremely slow.

Task manager sorting is extremely slow when I switch from sorting by name to performance metrics or vice versa.

For example - I can sort by name and if after that I decide to sort by one of the performance metrics - it's going to take about 3 seconds to do so. After that - I can freely sort by any of the performance metrics and I will experience no lag, unless I try to sort by the name again. In which case I will see another lag, also about 3 seconds. And from this point the cycle repeats.

I have had this issue before - the only resolution I have found - was to reinstall the windows, but it's not a solution I find sustainable.

TLDR

Sorting by CPU takes 3 seconds, after that, sorting by name takes 3 seconds, if I try to sort by CPU again - I will get another lag of the similar duration.

What can be done about it?

    Just chiming in to say I have the same issue with this setup:

    Win 10 pro

    9900k

    Asus Z390 strix

    32gb Corsair vengeance 3600mhz

    1TB nvme ssd

    Seeing a lot of Asus systems so far

    Hi I also have the same issue But I doubt you can found any info in comparing running processes.

    Poor system also shouldn't be the problem since there were so many high-end machines in this thread.

    I have three machine, their cpu are 10850k 10850h and 8086k,

    The 10850k and 10850h ones are experiencing the same tskmgr lag on sort problem, but the 8086k one does not. The 8086k one has a newly installed windows 10, all of them are upadated to latest by windows update.

    I would guess it has to do with some settings or tweaking in windows, the sorting process itself get extremely slow in tskmgr. Maybe a clean reinstall of windows would fix this but it's not necessary to reinstall your system because of a sorting problem lol.

    I have this same issue.

    I have the following specifications

    Win11

    ASUS ROG Strix mobo

    Samsung NVMe SSD 970

    Liquid Cooled

    64GB Ripsaws memory

    Not sure but there seems to be a couple of potential culprits, it is driving me insane.

    I have this issue as well. I have a two PC build, my old PC works just fine no issues with task manager, my brand new PC does have issues with Task Manager.

    They are both on Windows 10, fully updated including bios and firmware updates. Both also share the same "case" as they are built inside of a desk: Lian Li DK-05

    Now I'm curious; let's all see if the problem happens in Windows Sandbox. That should eliminate any hardware issues, no?

    EDIT: Windows Sandbox doesn't have the problem for me.

    Also, my native Windows task manager lag has gone from 3s up to around 30s. O.O
