'YES' button on UAC prompt is absent.

Looks like you missed the space after administrator and before / that is why you see the prompt detailing the syntax.

Makes sense the restore did what it did. I think I said before it might return your account to a blank password. When you are able to enable the built in Administrator account that is also a blank password. (if successful you should disable it again after the problem is resolved)

The Reset option to keep my files refers to files held in your default folders only, so Documents, Pictures etc.

I have a question:

One of the previous options was 'Reset this PC' and 'keep my files' or 'don't keep files'. As you say it's a 'RESET' and not a 'Restore'. so what files are kept?

As you'll have guessed, I am a PC user and not a Software Programmer which makes things difficult I know.

If by re-installing you mean a repair install then you may still see the UAC prompt.

As you say a clean install will mean you lose your programs and have to find and install them all again.

Did you previously try to enable the built in Administrator account?

You need to access the recovery environment first. If holding down the shift key an selecting Start > Power > Restart doesn't work then open a cmd prompt and type shutdown /R /O -T 00 press return.

Select Troubleshoot and then Command Prompt are you able to enter net user administrator /activate:yes press return. If it is accepted the restart and you should see the Administrator account on the sign-in screen so use that to sign-in and go to Control Panel > Users and see if you can set your normal account as administrator.

I HAVE just done a system restore successfully BUT the problem remains, no 'Yes' button on the UAC prompt which means I cannot make any changes to my PC.

All the usual things seem to work properly and so I'm surprised the restore could be run. I am loathe to do a reset because I have one or two apps which were downloaded and I don't want to go through the rigmaole of finding them on-line and or chancing not being able to reload them.

I've been toying with the idea of re-installing Windows. It's a pity a version without all the advertising nonsense isn't available.

I have the memory of a goldfish so I must rerun your advice on doing a restore. I can't recall why I didn't go ahead when it looked as if it might work, I'll do it now and get back to tou.
