Can't Change Default Apps Windows 11 (OS Build 22000.120)

The new Default App Setting is way to advance and confusing which is unecessary complex for home users. I wanted to change the default file type for Photos and Videos but I there is no jpg, png, mp4 types of file type showing when searching to change it's default app. Also I can't change the default app using explorer open with because the checkbox for always use this app is missing for both Photos and Videos. Also there is no Open with the file property too. Help Me Anyone.

    I assume you didn't start terminal with admin rights?

    I think I know what breaks this.
    I saw that the users that were having this issue were using IrfanView. I just installed it and tried to force file association through it's built in setup which operates on the registry. This worked fine on Windows 10 but not so much on Windows 11.

    As soon as I did it, I could no longer see bmp, jpg, png, etc. on my file associations list. The powershell command fixed it just nicely, but I'm pretty sure that irfanview's registry setup is what's breaking it. Probably renaming some keys or adding new ones, can't really tell.

    You may be right. I've installed W11 to a few friend lately, and I think also GOM Player may break this too (or VLC... not sure)

    Things sometimes change in the operating system from time to time, which is fine. Some things work differently.
    And yes, these apps may have used a method doing something, that was not... the intended way, yet worked.
    (did some registry stuff on the own accord and it worked so far)

    But.... I still think, that this functionality should not break this easily. Especially as multiple apps may do this.

    So this is nice example of something not being Microsoft's fault... yet they'll gt the blame, and they will need to come up with an idea to fix this eventually.
    (or people will update ther installers eventually, and this topic will be pretty popular up to that point :D )

    The software engineer's life is never easy :D

    I'll take a few seconds, and try to notify the creator or Irfanview about this :)
