Can't Change Default Apps Windows 11 (OS Build 22000.120)

Changing file associations had never been easier.

Open Settings app. Click Apps on the left pane. Then click Default apps on the right pane.

When Default apps window opens, input a file type in the "Make default association for file type" box, whose default association you want to change. For example I chose .pdf ( for .pdf documents ). My default .pdf app is Chrome. Don't forget to put the dot before pdf.

Then click on the ribbon of Chrome. A small window will open showing available programs you can associate .pdf documents with. After choosing your defult program, click O.K.

For an exercise, input .jpg. Your default jpg image file app will show up. Click on the ribbon of your default jpg image program and other programs will appear. Choose an app of your choice from among the apps. Click O.K.

Your wording of the problem is much too confusing. This is from your original post: "The new Default App Setting is way to advance and confusing which is unecessary complex for home users."

You may have installed an application from world wild web that has changed your file associations for media file types. You seem to run a media file from an app on the web.

If I input .mp4 in Settings > Default apps, I get my default media player, which is vlc media player. This is as simple as that.

Therefore, you must undo the changes you have made. If you have a Restore Point at a time before you made the change, you can restore your PC to that time.

Let Me Retell You Then. Very First thing is that I'm Running Windows 11 on unsupported device. I made an ISO and Installed it.

After Installation I Installed My Drivers And Windows Updates. After that I ran a Debloat Script. It Uninstalled Many Windows Apps Among them was Windows Photo. Although I reinstalled it using MS Store along with 2 of its add ins. After that I Installed My Daily Apps Using Chocolatey.

Before Reinstalling Windows Photo I noticed that i couldn't open any Pics. When Double Clicked or Right Clicked to Open the Pics it would lead to Print Option. Although After Reinstalling Windows Photo All the Pics Opens Using It Now.

But I Wanted to Use Iranfanview for viewing Photos But I was Unable to Change the Default Apps From Windows Photo to IrafanView.

When I Search .JPG / .PNG or any other file type in Default App Setting. Nothing Comes Up Like This:

I also can't change the photos default apps using Explorer.

1. Problem With Right-Click and open with is that The Checkbox of Always use this app is missing.

2. From Properties of that PNG Files. In General Tab There Should Be a Open With Detail Which is Also Missng.

After that I Gave Up on Changing Photos And Went Ahead to Change The Default Apps for Songs And Video.

Although I was successful in changing the .MP3 Default App.

But I wasn't Able to Change Default Apps For Videos.

After that I tried Changing It From Explorer But Had The Same Problems As Photos. Also Right Now There Is No Default App Setted for Videos.

After that I ran a Debloat Script.

The moment you run a debloat script all bets are off. I'd clean install again if I were you.
