Can't Change Default Apps Windows 11 (OS Build 22000.120)

Not sure how I got into this thread, but-

Don't be so harsh on MS and Windows. I've had a few nastier problems with Linux. (usually Ubuntu)
For graphics I usually stick to Irfanview, but alas it needs WINE to run in Linux, and it's too complicated to upgrade it and choose and mount the proper subfolders, etc.. in the Windows partition...

I've tried to convince Irfan to port his wonderful Irfanview to Linux, but he's probably too busy fighting Serbian imperialists in Sarajevo and the wild mountains of Bosnia... ;-) .

Gee- I've never heard of Fotografije. I'll give it a try. Does it run in Linux as well?

WHY SO MANY STUPID PROBLEMS WITH YOU MICROSOFT,

Because of Windows having corrupted or destroyed my work by restarting due to an update WITHOUT MY EXPLICIT APPROVAL, an issue you still have no fixed I stopped using it on one of my computers.

Now on my new computor, I got Windows 11 thinking that it can't be bad.

THIS IS SUCH A BASIC THING YOU HAVE REMOVED, WHY??

I cann't disassociate by you, Microsoft, appointed apps from their associated file extensions.

There is literally no .mp4 or .jpg etc. to pick that file extension's default application.

There is also no way to permanently make an application be associated with an extension.

I already had to screw around trying to remove that waste of time screen context menu in order to make the context menu (right click) look as it should, and then I got into this. All of this in the mere 5 days that I've owned this PC. How much time is the user expected to down into setting up what shouldn't be something to set up to begin with but should work out of the box?

I am hopefully going to be able to change the OS on this PC as well, since I can see that this, the lack of the option to chose default apps, is a dead issue, seeing how it's been first reported more than 2 years ago.

Edit: I typed this out at the end of my wits and also far too late into my night (because of this) so that's why the grammar errors and the venting nuance.

Bad mistake "upgrading " to Windows 11. images and videos stopped opening. After reading this thread and several other. I managed to fix the image problem by uninstalling photos. Re installing it and then resetting and restoring. Images work as normal.

Videos.... nope.. can't change association to use another program. Clicking on the small arrow or change button, depending on which method I try, doesn't open an option window.

Giving up. Going back to Windows 10.

Microsoft need a new marketing slogan for this POS. Use this one....

to anyone having a problem with default apps not changing, try uninstalling the film and tv app and also the new Microsoft media player. I did this and it brought back the option to change default programs when you click on file properties.

If, with File Types Manager, I change to IrfanView as default program, I receive "access denied"
