[Windows update installing the new Edge browser] Update KB4559309 Makes Computer Unbearably Slow

Last night I updated my windows 10 pro using KB:4559309. Since then my computer performance has absolutely tanked. my startup time is probably triple, loading any window has a few second delay.

I attempted to uninstall the update however windows tells me that it is required and cannot be removed.

This update has essentially rendered my brand new computer useless.

Please help!

Hey there, everyone

I have spoken to Missy Quarry, from the Edge team, and they are investigating this problem. However, they really need more details submitted though the Feedback Hub on Windows 10.

To submit feedback, please go to start > Feedback Hub.

You will need to click onto report a problem. Then enter your feedback/problem you are having with Microsoft Edge. On the categories you will need to make sure you have the following drop down options selected in the image underneath:

The more detail you can submit, the better it will be for the Edge team to find out what is causing this issue. So the detail box that has the test comment, should detail everything you are experiencing.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Last night it did the sam thing on my new computer. But it is fine now. This update

is so extensive, it actually duplicates the windows directory, making a "Windows.old" directory and a (presumably) new Windows directory. The update warns you that you will need to reboot your computer several times, and that is most certainly true. It took forever to install and set up, but I rebooted the computer three times in a row and after that it was not slow. Also I deleted the Windows.old directory.

Did you try rebooting three times and scheduling a disk check on the last one?

You can schedule a diskcheck on reboot with the command line. In windows power shell:

    chkdsk /x /f

or for a really long intense read/write testing check

    chkdsk /x /f /r

    Hey there, MikeBrown157

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

I would defiantly recommend submitting this as feedback. Please see my post above yours on how to do this.

The more information the Edge team have about this problem, the better chance they have at resolving this for you.

    Thanks,

    Regards,

    Mike,

I think you are right, that it is a software problem; but I wouldn't know where to start.  At least you have a solution - plugging the ethernet into  the router.  I think it's brilliant that you thought of trying that.

My computer is an HP Notebook.  It is 8 years old and I restored factory settings so that I could use it for testing.

My solution was a fluke.  I went to "About Edge" in the settings trying to find a way to uninstall it.  After it updated, my response time dropped to less then 2 seconds.  I can live with that!

    Diane
