I am presently at version 20H2 OS build 19042.388.   KB4568831  is failling to install, it just loops from installing to downloading back to downloading. The following is logger in event viewer

Error Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: 2020-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB4568831).

I have ran SFC and DISM with no errors. Deleted files in c:windows\softwaredistribution\downloads with no help.  Any ideas

No luck with method 1-3, I can not find KB4568831 in the Microsoft Update Catalog to download

Try to update manually via Microsoft update catalog

Here is the link for KB4568831

Download the dedicated update package for your architecture then install it

    It should work

    As

I was also stuck in this loop

And manual installation solved all this loop issue.

Insider preview updates are available only via Windows Update, never in Update Catalog.

    Hi Don,

My name is Jocelyn, an independent advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

Please try the following methods and check after each.

Method 1: Disable your antivirus software

If your device has third-party antivirus software, please disable them for the meantime and then try to install the Windows update again.

Method 2: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, then select Windows Update under Get up and running, and then select Run the troubleshooter.

Method 3. Manually Reset Windows Update Components

Open Command prompt, and then Run as Administrator.

Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer, and Windows Update Services.

In the command prompt window, copy-paste the following command one at a time and press Enter:

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

Rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder.

In the command prompt window, copy-paste the following command one at a time and press Enter:

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

Now restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer, and Windows Update Services.

In the command prompt window, copy-paste the following command one at a time and press Enter:

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

Close the window once completed and then restart the computer.

After restarting the computer, check Windows Updates again.

Method 4. Downloading updates from Microsoft Update Catalog manually:

    http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/home.aspx

Let us know how it turns out.

    Regards,

    Jocelyn

Thank you for your kind suggestion.

I tried to restart/rename Update services/folders, and to install *.msu as you suggested.

But Windows Update still requested to install the already installed KB.

And for my case, uninstalling solved the problem.
