I rec'd an Intel SCSI Adapter update V 17.5.3.1026, this AM, thru the Windows update screen. After the install I immediately has boot up problems. The boot up would stall at the Dell logo screen and go no further. I was able to get to boot up once in a while by powering off and restarting from the power button, but that didn't work very often. When it did boot up using this method it was pretty sluggish. I contacted Dell support and they were not aware of the problem. I subsequently reviewed some Dell community forum posts and there were other people reporting the exact same problem in May 2020. I was finally able to get back to normal operating condition by doing a system point restore prior to the download. The jist of the forums was there is problem with the RST and BIOS not in sync. Both of those are current according to Dell drivers and download screen. Dell has fowarded the problem to the engineering dept for review. The next time I checked for updates the Intel showed up again but I did not install. I'm OK as long as it does not try to self install. I also contacted MS support and they wanted to update me V 2004 which I declined as it still is showing for developers. Any thoughts on what to do here? Thanks

I have experienced the same issue on my Dell XPS 8920 tower, because I was aware that an intel driver was updated before the issue. So I did a driver roll back inside device manager. And everything has back to normal now. So ABSOLUTELY no need for a system restore! just roll it back
I had the same issue with it crashing when w10 starts up or from hibernation after a windows update which is bundled with an Intel driver update and believe I've solved it.
I am no expert and cannot vouch for any side-effects but I found the newly installed Intel driver, rolled it back and now I no longer have any start-up issues.
Go to Device manager>Storage Controllers>Intel(R) Chipset SATA.....>Properties>Driver>Rollback Driver.
No more problems with start-up
I discovered another discussion about this issue at Dell.com. A guy named JohnD said, " Solution: Try turning off "Fast startup". There have been issues in the past with "fast startup".
- You can find it in "Settings" > "System" > "Power and sleep" > "Additional power settings".
- Click the "Choose what the power buttons do" on the left menu list.
- Click on "Change settings that are currently available" link.
- Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" and save.
Your system will now do a complete shutdown when you shut it down, It will take a little longer when you boot up, but it wont be much unless you have a very old computer. JohnD"
It has baffled me for months as to why after this update, my computer will not start after a regular shutdown, but will start fine after I turn it off with the power button, so this answer made sense to me, especially after I looked up "fast startup" online.
I have a Dell 7710 and this is the first thing I tried that actually worked with no hiccups. To circumvent the persisting problem of not waking up properly after extended sleep, I changed my "Hibernate" time to 1440 minutes (24 hours). This setting is under Power & Sleep / Additional Power Settings / Change Power Settings / Change Advanced Power Settings / Sleep / Hibernate After.
I tried rolling back the driver as recommended elsewhere, no dice. I did a system restore and it boogered some other stuff so I undid that restore without testing the power problem as I didn't want to deal with multiple problems versus the power problem.

I have my windows updates paused, but on Friday, I installed a critical update from Dell Update listed as ""Intel Management Engine Components Installer," which caused the same boot problem. I tried JohnD's suggestion, and my computer will now start normally when I press the power button after a shutdown. It still will not start properly if it is on "sleep" too long and shuts down itself, so I am guessing I am still missing something somewhere, but this is progress.
Here's the latest feedback from the Dell Engineering dept.
Engineering is working with development teams to try to find out why Microsoft is pushing the IRST driver like it is. I haven’t seen an update on this yet but I know both Intel and Microsoft are very slow to respond to these types of requests.
