My elderly DCP195C has been working fine with my Windows 10S until today, Thu 11 June 2020.  Windows did a large update yesterday or day before.  Now the printer will not work  }:-(   Tried looking at settings but nothing seems to solve the problem.  Anyone any suggestions please?

    Hi jack,

Just googled it as someone would explain it simpler than me!

You can check whether you're using S Mode by heading to Settings > System > About. On the About page, scroll down to the “Windows Specifications” section. If you see the words “in S mode” to the right the Edition entry, you're using an S Mode PC.

    Sean,

Thanks. Just did that process and find:

Edition: Windows Home [no S mode]

    Version: 1903

    Build: 18362.836

So even with no S mode, my Brother MFC-J410W will not print.

BTW, in case this work-around was missed within this long thread. I can "print" using the Brother "iPrint and Scan" app on my iPhone 8. [free from the Apple App store] I email a doc to myself, pick it up on my phone email app, and use the Brother print app to print to my WiFi printer!

    Jack

    Hi ChristopherWhitmey,

Not sure if you know, but you can switch out of S mode, I've just googled it and realized with my childs PC I didn't do an upgrade to windows 10 Home I switched out of S mode! I'm tech support for family and friends and done a few windows 10 upgrades and installs! I'm getting confused easily!!!!

Some instructions from microsoft in the link below worth reading!

Remember to backup all your work, files, etc. make a note of all the programs you have installed, have you the media to re-install or can it be downloaded, etc, also the serial numbers of the programs etc!. if you do want to switch out, remember you can't go back to S mode...!

I've fortunately only windows 10 Home & Pro with a Canon ip7250 printer which hasn't been affected by the updates! I wouldn't even have known about this problem if my friend hadn't rung.! We bought one of my kids an HP laptop which had Windows 10 S home, but i upgraded to Windows 10 home straight away! Only issue is the cost of upgrading from S Home to Home! I used a company called softwaregeeks, but there's question marks how legit they are selling OEM licences.? Not had any problems though.! They're now called united software.! Hope microsoft gets this sorted soon!

I've just remembered my mother in law as a brother laser printer.! Not had a phone call yet but I'm now preying that they get this fixed ASAP.!

I have win 10 Home, how do I determine if it is 10 or 10S?
