Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

HP Envy x360 laptop; SSD; (about 4 years old; came with Conexant audio driver)

I ran into the Conexant driver issue and finally found the solution as described by Howard Goldberg (not sure if it was him or someone else but thanks to him for his explanations) back around 4/11/21.  After stalling 3 times at 61% while updating from 1909 to 20H2, finally deleted the driver, did not reboot, and download and install went smoothly. (Don't take my relief as implying Microsoft should be let off the hook).

However, instead of the former Conexant driver there was installed a "High Definition Audio device" which is a Microsoft driver, version 10.0.19041.264, dated 5/9/20.  Audio has been working fine since then.

Today, Windows update notifies me that in addition to "2021-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5001330)"       and "HP Inc. - HIDClass - 2.1.14.1" pending download, there is also   "Conexant - MEDIA - 5/14/2017 12:00:00 AM - 8.65.203.1" pending download.

My question is whether this 2017 Conexant driver is going to screw up my laptop's audio; or whether this driver is going to cause problems for future Windows updates.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Is this some sort of Microsoft fix?  Shouldn't I be looking for a more recent driver?  Thanks.
