Updating to Windows 10 Version 2004/Conexant Drivers

So what do people with computers with Conexant drivers do? Windows Update says update drivers but there are none acceptable, it also says Microsoft is working on a fix ? So what do we do? If there are compatible drivers for devices using Conexant Audio where are they, how do we get them and install or replace them (I have tried everything to no avail). When does MS expect a fix ? Are persons with Conexant audio drivers computers at end of life ? Does anybody care ?

    Yes. since I disabled driver installation prior to the 2004 update, Windows doesn't install any driver for audio device during the upgrade process.

    Therefore after you have upgraded, it is important to disable the restriction and let Windows apply the audio drivers.

    In my case I am using Microsoft High Definition Audio Device driver v 10.0.19041.264 dated 09-05-2020.

    I continue to block the Conexant driver 8.66.95.69 as I am not sure it could cause issues, and also I don't feel any difference between the audio from my laptop or headphone jack with the Microsoft drivers. So I am satisfied.

    I feel this is what Microsoft should be doing, instead of us jumping through the hoops. 

    If they find incompatible drivers, they should let users know and seek acceptance to upgrade using Microsoft drivers.

    Yes - I read somewhere it was supposed to be 24 hours and was excited then disappointed - but the next day it happened!

    After one day of the changed settings, Microsoft decided to give me the 2004 update !!

    I did it by setting a local policy as I outlined in my post on page 4  - this, of course, sets a registry key for you.

    There are instructions on how to do this manually here - obviously you would need the string from the conexant driver Propeties - 2nd one down is usually best as it is more generic. I won't post my sting here as your chip might be a bit different but I give steps to get the right string in my earlier post. Follow that - get the string then either do a group policy as I did (steps in my post) or follow the instruction in the link here but use the string for your card.

    If it works, Windows update complains that it can't "fix" your driver because of a system policy.

    That is what every injured user should do. I have dual boot at the moment but I hope this will change soon.

    With Debian I feel I own a computer.
