I just bought my pc yesterday!!!! its an acer with icore 5 and 12gb ram there is nothing on it yet....and it is still taking over 4 hours. so it is Microsoft issue. very sad

Today I was notified by Windows Update that the 2004 update is finally ready to be downloaded and installed on my laptop. I pressed download and install and left the laptop plugged in idle as I did not have any laptop work to do at that time. Now it's been 4 hours since I left it on, and the Windows Update screen (in the Settings > Updates & Security) is still at 94% installing, which is the exact number I saw more than an hour ago. Is it stuck? Why is it taking so long to install? My internet is fast enough, I don't have many programs installed apart from a few essentials such as Office and Inkscape along with other credible software. I am afraid that if I close it and reset the Windows Update, it'll take 4+ hours again (not to mention the additional lengthy rebooting and installing the update again in the blue background screen which happens with every single update), plus it's already night here so I cannot leave it turned on while I go to sleep.

2020-09-04T14:23:38+00:00 Yup djbilly, I'm running just that: M.2 SSD with 16GB of RAM in a Dell Precision already stepped down to zero more Software packages installed than the naked Windows 10.
Seeing this thread has grown over 11 pages and NOT A SINGLE WORD of help or advice from MS is appallingly aggravating!
I'm off to a long needed 14 days of vacation. Will check back on this thread when I'm back in the office.

2020-09-04T00:00:41+00:00 By no means am I attempting to brag, but... When I realized there'd never come a day when we'd see 15K RPM drives in a laptop, we jumped ship from the 5.4K and 7.2K spindles to SSD...never once regretted that and never once looked back. :0)
That decision was easy, even with the huge increase in cost and the huge decrease in size. The most painful part was, during the transition phase, jumping back and forth between supporting newer devices with SSDs and older ones with spindle drives. Now, it's a distant memory.
Oh, the way things were...audio driver installed via 1-3 floppy disks against a 4.2K HDD. And the way things are now...600MB download and 3-5min installation time (not including the suggested system restart), just to produce sound!?!?! CARAZAY!
YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!!!!!!! The world is a totally different place. I had to chuckle on that trip down memory lane! I think about my first lap top that had that 4.2K HDD..., and it was the "latest"! I think I got perspective when I read that the computers that put Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon were about as powerful as my flip phone from the early 2000's. I am a "space cadet" and I consume any, and all, info on rocketry, and the like. Watching Elon Musk's launches, and thinking back to the Saturn 5 Apollo rockets, and it's two different universes, not parallel at all!
I have several laptops that I use to make service calls, but my desktop is my rig. But it makes dealing with MS shenanigans a lot easier because I can tweak the hardware to accompany the software changes. And SHOOTS! it's just a lot of fun too!
