Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 taking too long to install

So I left it for an hour more last night, and there was no progress, so I paused the updates, then pressed resume (this cancelled the update installation altogether) and went to sleep. I had work today morning so I finished my laptop work first then did the following steps:

• Stopped the services 'wuauserv' and 'bits' from cmd in administrator mode
• Deleted whatever files were in C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder (This removed past Windows Update records but did not remove any already-installed updates, so it was fine)
• Started the services 'wuauserv' and 'bits' from cmd in administrator mode
• Cleaned up my registry using Auslogics Registry Cleaner software
• Deleted all data from the temp folder (%temp%)
• Performed a 'sfc /scannow' check in cmd in administrator mode, which automatically repaired a few corrupted system files that it detected
• Went back to 'Windows Update & Security' settings, rechecked for Windows Updates, at which point it showed me that 2004 feature update is ready to be downloaded and installed, and I obliged.

I left my laptop plugged in, set the 'turn off display after' to never, sleep mode to 'never', and waited for it to install. I started around 1 pm, and it took until roughly 5 pm for the install percentage to reach 100 (It got stuck again at 94% but after 40 minutes or so it took a direct jump to 97%, then 100% after 15 more minutes). Thankfully, the part where it restars Windows and installs all the update again in safe OS phase did not take much time, and 15 minutes later I was booted up and my desktop was ready.

Bugs I noticed: The fresh boot-up removed my wallpaper, so I had to re-apply it. I use dark system theme, and whenever I open up the file explorer (which I do a lot), the entire explorer window flashes white for less than a second and then shows up in dark mode. It's very annoying and I am considering between living with this or switching to white mode which I find equally annoying.

Win 2004 took me just over 5 hours and 10 minutes to download install and set up to first boot. 

Ridicules don't you think.   Bring back the old CDs.   That was my second attempt. 2 weeks before it took about the same time but only lasted 2 days before everything freezed up and I had to go back to 2009

Windows 10 2004 is currently in seeker mode - if you manually press check for updates it gets downloaded. Are you sure it rolled down automatically to your device?

As it is >1 month since the availability, upgrading right now isn't a good idea. That's something I would explain later on, if needed.

In your case, if the data and apps are in large amounts, the update may take time. If you want to cancel it, click Pause updates for 7 days option.

The download/installation of the "featured update 2004" took a longer than usual amount of time.  I, patiently, stretched the whole process over a Friday-Monday period of time which resulted in success, thankfully!   Susan
