Brother MFC-240C won't print after Win 10 updates

I have installed 3 Win 10 updates in the last two days (KB4560960, KB4561600, KB4497165), and now my Brother MFC-240C printer will not print anything from my computer.  When I try to print something, the job appears in the print queue for a fraction of a second, then disappears.  The printer never starts printing.  I can scan successfully, so the connection (USB) is OK.  I have tried the usual troubleshooting:  removing and reinstalling the printer, removing and reinstalling the driver package - still no luck.  I can use the copy function on the printer, and it prints out the scanned copy just fine.  Win10 appears unable to send print jobs to my printer after this update, and I have no idea how to fix it.

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Advisor. I’m so glad assisting you today

I am also Windows user. Let us work together to sort this out.

You can try uninstalling the KB Update KB:4560960 and KB:4561608 as a workaround.

To uninstall the update using command prompt follow the steps below.

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type cmd in the search box
  3. Right click on it and run the application using administrator.
  4. A box will open.
  5. Type the following command after replacing the KB ID with the one that you wish to uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
  6. Example: wusa /uninstall /KB:4023057
  7. Once done typing hit enter.

Once done uninstalling the both KB update restart your pc and try to check if issue persist.

I hope the steps above helps. Have a nice day ahead and be safe.

With Warm Regards

Rhaine C.

    MC Young,

Whilst I apprecaite the comment, re-posting the guide isn't helpful. Of course I have followed the above steps. If you read my comment, it says the update is flagged as essential and cannot be removed. I'm deputy network manager at a school, worked in IT support all of my life. Not my first BBQ!

I've tried the other methods too, in the old and & rem progs screen the Uninstall is not available for that update. Clicking down the list, only some appear to allow removal. I miss the old days when you cold click any update you wanted and remove it. I also tried a roll back from 2004 to 1909, but all it did was replace the KB4557957 version with this one. Her PC is bound to not be the only one that marks the update as essential, so those people will be stuck too.

Because of how widespread this is, I'm hoping that MS realise their mistake and release another update to fix it, or a manually applied hotfix would also be great. The only other way I can see to fix this now is to reset to a core build and block that update from being applied after the OS install completes. I'd obviously prefer not to do that remotely, it might come to that eventually.

    Hi,

My god mother has the same issue with her PC. It has the KB4560960 being installed the day before the issue, however the system says it's essential and refuses to uninstall it. She didn't have system restore enabled so I can't use that to wind back.

Is there a hotfix for this or a way for forcibly remove the updates?

    Kind Regards,

    Jacob
