Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

MS has announced, that if its about partition, there will be notice about "error_insificcuent_diskspace"-> if that error code, it about something else. I tried to push it even to 2gb. Did not help. There was "samkind" of problem when I reinstalled windows 10 last month. MS-Store update servers were down for a weekend -> no new msstore-> no new anything. Answer was to wait for few days-> new update -> it works. But with this, I dunno how to go around it (or neither should I even try.) I bet ms cant leave it like this, and will fix the update to work without any mambojambo with partitions. How did you get your working? Was it about partition size? And if so how big did you need to change the recovery partition? Did you get that error code or even that notice about not enough disk space while having the error? If I understood MS correctly there should read that there is not enough diskspace if the error is about that. If jsut code- > no can do. That is what I get first hit with google while searching "KB5034441 does not work".

I ran into this issue with my home Windows 10 installation. I was able to use the procedure here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf to resize the partition.

However - when I got to Step 9 - the output of the "reagentc /info" command did not match the output of Step 2.

Original output:

 Windows RE location:       \?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk2\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE

Subsequent output:

 Windows RE location:       \?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk2\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE

Investigating further - I determined this was because my disk was a older drive using a Master Boot Record (MBR) partition table. After step 6 in the procedure, the quick format changed the ID from 27 (Windows Restore) to something like a 07 (Primary partition).

I needed to add an additional step - what I'm calling "5c"

5c. If your disk is MBR, run set id=27

Following the procedure now, the harddisk and partition numbers for Step 9 and Step 2 match - and I was able to complete the update successfully.

I don't know if this will help anyone else - and of course I can't guarantee anything for anyone who tries it - but it worked for me.

I had the same problem and now it is solved

I tried this as well, using two different partition managers. Unfortunately, the WINRE partition on my two systems is at the front and neither Minitool or the other one can move it to behind the C: partition where I have plenty of space.

I downloaded partition wizard which is a free use and download program.

With this I was easily able to double my hard disk partition size from just over 500Mb to 1Gb as from what I can see KB 5034441 fails to install as most hard disk partitions as installed with Windows 10 that I use, are too small for this update and this is why this update installation fails.

I have plenty of additional storage on my system, so it was a no brainer.

It takes about 35 minutes on my system for the partition size to be increased which is a little worrying however be patient.

Once the partition size was changed and after the necessary reboots my system works perfectly, and KB 5034441 installed no problem first try.

It's still amazing to me that Microsoft can issue a mandatory update that simply does not work using their own basic systems and we have to go through this hair-raising experience to fix what is simply something they created and did not adequately test.

I hope this helps those that have had the same experience as me.
