The latest update downloads and then fails to install.

  • OS Build # 19045.3930.
  • Update Troubleshoot tool repair but it does not help.
  • MS Windows Update Catalog does not have the update.
  • Other updates all went through without any trouble.

This is a brand new update. Is this a known issue? Is there a resolution specific to this update? (Please do not copy and paste standard procedure)

I don't doubt there's an issue with this update, but all I can say is that one machine where I followed the resize procedure and disabled Bitlocker was able to install the update.

I know this is a small sample size but I think there's definitely something about the size of the recovery partition being insufficient.

If this is the problem, I'm not really sure how to fix it for machines where the partition layouts are different or where there's some other issue at play.

I have another computer where the partition layout parked the recovery partition at the head of the drive so expanding this partition would require a third-party disk manager.

We'll see if Microsoft can actually fix this update.

As a novice user I have attempted the recommended fix - KB5028997 - to manually resize the WinRE partition, but the System partition listed is only 100MB so how can that be shrunk by 250MB please? Should the instructions actually refer to the Windows partition listed as Primary?

    All advice would be appreciated

Why is this update, which is to fix a vulnerability in Bitlocker, being supplied to users running Windows 10 Home Edition which cannot have Bitlocker installed?

All Microsoft have done is cause worry to millions of users.
