How to install KB5034441: Windows Recovery Environment update for Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2: January 9, 2024

I tried to manually resize the partition by 250 MB per the instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf#articleFooterSupportBridge=communityBridge

I had to exit Disk Part because I can not shrink the OS partition first:

    Copy it to C:\Windows\System32\Recovery. Enabling Windows RE will move the file to the recovery partition.

    How/ why is Microsoft allowed to keep testing this failed patch REPEATEDLY in PROD? It has been going on for weeks; requiring multiple restarts each time. No other enterprise would be allowed to do this to millions customers REPEATEDLY without getting crucified in the media. Back out this mess and fix it! We are not your unpaid enterprise testing team!

    The "format" command caused all the files/folders stored on "Partition 4" to become inaccessible -- like a book where the table-of-contents page has been removed, or 100%-covered by black ink. [There do exist disk-utilities that can read each sector in the partition, and try to stitch-together groups of sectors to become files & folders that can be recovered to a different disk-drive.]

    The fact that the partition is "healthy" means that there is no need to use CHDKSK to "repair" the file-system, because the file-system is not "dirty".

    As others have mentioned, find a ".wim" file on a Microsoft Windows DVD, as part of the process to rebuild the contents of the partition.

    I grabbed the NIUBI partition manager tool (free), shrank my 2T SSD by 2G, then increased the recovery partition by that amount, yielding a 2.5GB recovery partition. The same failure occurs.

    Microsoft, you NEED to fix your problem!!!

    UPDATE:

    I downloaded the Win 10 ISO file, extracted the requir3d fil and converted it to a .wim file. Now, how do I copy it to my new recovery partition? I cannot find a way to mount it and make it visible to the copy command.

    ** Where do I find the "wim" file? Then, what do I do with it?

    I have the same problem on Windows 10.

    The windows recovery update failed. I followed the recommended procedure to fix the problem.

    I shrank the boot partition, deleted the recovery partition, created a new recovery partion, formatted it NTFS, and marked it "Windows RE tools".

    REAGENTC cannot find the new recovery partition.

    Windows DISKMANAGEMENT GUI sees it and reports "healthy partition".

    REAGENTC /INFO shows no location for the recovery partition, as in the previous user's screen shot.

    I tried us8ng REAGENTC /SETREIMAGE /PATH \?\GLOBALROOT\HARDDISK0\PARTITION4\RECOVERY\WINDOWSRE, but I cannot get the path syntax correct. The MSLearn article only explains how to point to a recovery file, not to a partition.
