Install error - 0x80070643 Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2

I have been having this error for a long time now, it keeps saying "retry"after i click on it. Anyone know how to fix it?

I googled the actual KB and found this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5034441-windows-recovery-environment-update-for-windows-10-version-21h2-and-22h2-january-9-2024-62c04204-aaa5-4fee-a02a-2fdea17075a8. It seems that it updates the Windows Recovery (WinRE) environment, and the tip about resizing the partition for that is valid. You can find the link to the instructions in the KB article I linked.

I did that and the installation passed.

    The one to shrink is the big C one.

    Please do not touch the 100 MB partition, that is your boot partion.

    I resized my Windows RE partition, but still no joy.
    "* Volume 8 Windows RE NTFS Partition 500 MB Healthy Hidden"

    Guess wait for MS to fix then.

    I believe what Microsoft's instructions are omitting is the need to set the partition ID *after* formatting. Otherwise the RE partition may not be recognized as such.

    Also, I found that 500 MB may only be borderline-enough to fix this, so I increased to 750 MB to be safe.

    1. Download the MiniTool Partition Wizard 12 program (portable version here: MiniTool Portable Partition Magic Brings Easier Disk Management - MiniTool Partition Wizard

    Use it to extend Recovery partition to at least 1000MB

    • Right click on Recovery Partition
    • Extend
    • Take free space from (from which partition take the size, I recommend C partition - where the OS is)
    • Use the slider to increase the value so that the Recovery partition has at least 1000-1500 MB
    • OK

    Confirm Apply changes with the Apply button

    Restart

    Install Update

    Much easier and faster than the command line.
