Here's a recent article from Which? magazine about things to try when updates don't work. A lot of what we've discussed already, but looks like there's a few extra command-line options in there too. Also handy to have everything in one place 🙂

Obviously Microsoft should do something about to prevent this in the first place, however the support I've had from that company recently has been less than stellar. I'm seriously looking at other options now - especially as Windows 11 won't install on any of my PCs 🙄

And the timing of this article is interesting - they must have a lot of complaints about updates!

I've been using Linux for many years, mostly Ubuntu. Not up to production level. I'm also running one Mac, a Chromebook, and a couple of Androids. The balance of options is poor. I have been able to avoid using Microsoft Office for some years now, but largely because I'm retired now.

Maybe time to think about using Linux as an OS. I tried it and liked it, but I am too hooked into MS Office and none of the alternatives that I have seen for Office worked as well as one would hope. Also I have other software that I use that only runs on Windows. Interestingly one of my PCs took the update just fine. The other did not; probably because the C: drive is smaller on it. I don't have enough space to expand the area that the solution calls for. Windows has always been a mixed blessing. MS has made some real blunders with some of their Operating Systems. Some organizations are still using Windows XP because it is cheaper to pay Microsoft for support than to upgrade dozens of PCs in a large organization. I always liked Windows NT. Then XP. Windows 7 wasn't too bad either. Vista was terrible.
