DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The update KB5034441 failed with a fatal error when staging the WIM. This is due to a lack of free space in the WinRE partition. KB5034441: Windows Recovery Environment update for Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2: January 9, 2024 - Microsoft Support

Resizing the Recovery partition to 750 MB resolves the issue. That applies if you use the Windows-default winre.wim.

For OEM-supplied winre.wim (which has additional drivers and packages), ensure the Recovery partition's size is atleast 100 MB more than the size of the custom wim.

KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update - Microsoft Support: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf

Note: The above MS article works only if your Recovery partition is situated next to (i.e., right side) the OS partition. You can check the disk layout by opening Disk Management.

(Based on what I've noticed on the forums, many users have decided to skip/hide the KB5034441 update and wait and see if Microsoft releases a fix.)

After command SFC /scannow
& resize of WinRE to 1GB, managed to get this update working. 👍

I have the problem that my WinRE partition is at the beginning of the FAT and my main partition most left at the end. In between are system partitions that can't be moved.

What can I do now ?

I chose to use AOMEI Partition Assistant to extend the recovery partition as I had free space

Although it extended OK when I checked disk management afterwards it now wasn't displaying as a recovery partition and diskpart showed that the attributes hadn't been correctly set by the tool after extending.

So even by using a tool I still had to use diskpart to set gpt attributes =0x8000000000000001

With a 1000MB partition the update now installs OK

This issue also affects W11 - probably if you've migrated from W10 - but it generates Event 4502 (Critical) 'Windows Recovery Environment servicing failed" instead of failing a Windows Update - so many wont realise its happening on W11 - its not as obvious its happening.

Thanks for the info. I tried following it but unfortunately I'd have to pay for MiniTool. The free version won't let me do it

Can Microsoft windows 10 people fix this problem? Maybe 10% of those who have this problem are technically sound. While the rest of us do not wish to add more problems to the defective upload. It is causing some buffering to my browser. Plus they are trying to add like 5 updates a day for the antivirus updates over this bad one. Just send a fix or have this one go away.
