I lost all my passwords on all my browsers

I lost all my passwords on all my browsers with the last Windows update. Every time I try to get support, I am directed to the spot to "save" passwords. They are still there allowing them to be saved. Each time I sign on to a site, I am asked if I want to save. I always say yes, but it still never saves. I had to change all my passwords and write them down because I didn't remember them because they were all saved before that update.  This is annoying, to say the least. Please, don't advise me on how to go into my browser settings and choose to save passwords. I know that. Everyone does.; It doesn't work!

I have been working on getting this fixed since the last update/ I got blocked out of my bank for attempting to use what I thought was my password. 

I wish to opt-out of Windows updates. They only serve to make PC users, annoyed!

    Windows forcibly updated itself yesterday and it has refused to save any password for anything since then.  I have been working on this for hours and hours and I just found the solution!  It's the third thing they recommend here: 

    https://windowsreport.com/11939-credential-manager-no-working-windows-8/ under "Change Ownership for Vault Directory." 

     I'm no software whiz and I could follow their steps easily.  Apparently during some of these Windows updates changes are made that keep the credential manager from functioning properly.  I googled "Fix Credential Manager"  and I found this article.  Did the first two things with no result and the third thing just worked a charm!

    Ok so I just tried JerseyGirl3's suggestions above, exactly.  I then turned my PC all the way off and turned it back on.  The sync of passwords stayed with Google Chrome and the passwords have saved.  If it lasts, then JerseyGirl3 could be a reason for me to move back to New Jersey.  We might all owe her big time!

    my problem is my very own sites don't recognize my computer all the time. As soon as I close a browser, the info I re-entered is gone. Each time I have to have them text me or send me email. Many times they still won't accept my password and I am continuously making new ones. I am 75 years old and this is just to stressful for me. "I am trying something new and hoping it works. I am computer knowledgeable. Hoping this works. Short of re-installing the entire PC. 

    Yes, Microsoft is very negligent in this area.

    For me, it isn't about not knowing my passwords, it's about being annoyed by having to reenter passwords each time. As someone else said, I don't save passwords for important sites like banking, but there are plenty of others that I do, and use daily, and it is annoying. I am thinking about rolling back the update. I cannot understand why Microsoft would not acknowledge there is a problem and work to fix it.

    Well, I cleverly keep all my passwords in an Outlook folder and I keep my password for Outlook written down, so losing all my passwords was no big deal. ::)

    The problem is, no matter what I do (and I have done every single thing I can find suggested on the internet) it won't SAVE any passwords -- and this is not just for my browsers, but for Outlook and other things as well.  It *says* it's saving them and I can go on Edge or Chrome and look into settings and it will have a list of saved passwords, but if I restart, they are all gone again.  I have absolutely no idea how to fix this disaster.
