Microsoft flight sim 2020 wont launch

Hi i recently downloaded Microsoft Flight Simulator to my pc which i was very excited to play. Unfortunately when ever i click the icon for the game, nothing will happen the game will not launch and i have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and nothing has worked so far. Please help me because i am confused as to what to do.

Thanks Louise Great to hear you got it sorted. I really didnt want to reinstall windows so I battled on.

I Finally got it to LOAD!

After crawling through pages of tips and tricks I have found a solution to my CTD on loading screen issues.

Only problem is I'm not sure exactly what fixed it but this is the Process I did.

  1. Uninstalled  MSFS 2020 and Restart PC

2 Uninstalled Xbox App and Restart PC

3 Set App language Settings to US English (this is a different setting than the keyboard and Display Language. It is in the windows settings app.

4 Installed windows sdk and Restart PC

5 Installed Xbox App and yup Restarted PC.

6 Logged in to Xbox app and searched for Flight Simulator.

7 Installed MSFS 2020 (from the xbox app) then Restarted PC

8 Now I Launched MSFS from the start menu NOT THE XBOX APP.  Right click and Run as Administrator.

The Desert scene came up like usual but instead of the expected CTD up came the installation manager and so far so good I am downloading content.

I really hope this can help Others, Good Luck

Update: After about 8 hours of downloading the extra content the Sim works. and it does look amazing. Two weeks of frustration getting it to work seems a little over the top but I'm not complaining now :)

After Update 4 MSFS2020 did not launch anymore.

Before this update everything worked perfect.

After update windows, reinstall MSFS2020 any many more attemps no progress at all.

But the solution was more easy than I assume ;-)

I switched the Bullguard Fire Wall out.

Instead of Bullguard the PC switch to Windows Defender Fire Wall automatically.

With the Windows Defender Fire Wall the game launches perfect.

Happy again!

    I have been tying to run pc version of Microsoft Flight Simulator for several months now. The game starts to launch then a warning box appears and asks to start the game in safe mode or normal mode. Either mode causes game to close. I open xbox app first and check for updates but the problem still happend after dozens of attempts to rum the flight sim. Please help me to resolve this issue.

    This is a total failure of MS management of the crAPP Store. I have been using MS since 1984 DOS, a former A+ tech and flight instructor. I could go thru a list of MS failures but I will stick to APP Store:

    1. It is completely unethical to lock users out of their purchased property with mandatory upgrade. Particularly when the crAPP Store has known issues. They must allow users to stick with current version and opt into upgrade when "Their" time is appropriate. For example, I had student session and had to cancel. I am retired volunteer instructor.
    2. I went thru the cumbersome "fixes" twice with no resolution. Guessing, this could be an Authentication problem due to absurdly complicated bloated MS account authentication process.
    3. This is my second purchase of MSFS. The first time was worse. Crashed 10-20 times the first week I had it. Got refund. No problem.
    4. I purchased 1 year later. Same instable crashes. I was refunded again. I can live with the crashes but not the "Lock Out" of my property.

    RECOMMEND PURCHASE THRU STEAM if you can get a refund.

    Looks like I will be instructing on X-Plane for at least another year or two. Maybe XP 12 will be out with new enviro and I will completely avoid MSFS.

    I've had MS Flight Simulator 2020 since March 2021 and every time there's an update I have to uninstall and reinstall it. I'm really sick of it. I've tried many fixes with no avail. How can MS be so irresponsible with its customers. I would like to know if there is a solution other than giving up and deleting the &^%! program.
