here were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80080005).

This is the error I get every time for a few days.

I tried troubleshooting but it didn't work. 

Many have said in other queries(for the same problem) to Reset SoftwareDistribution & Catroot2 folders. But I'm scared to do that because I'm worried if something happens to my laptop.

Please suggest a way to solve this issue.

This is a frequent issue sometimes caused by driver compatibility errors: Windows 10 Update Assistant (microsoft.com)

You could try downloading the Windows Update Assistant. It can help bump your version of windows past this sort of update error to the latest version.

Choose the 1st option for the update assistant: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

    I did a reset and now update works which shows that the OS must be a mess.

    And even better it didn't keep the full user account, wiping my Debian AppData directory. Interesting, given that the reset options tells you categorically that it will keep your user account. Windows is more than just a few docs in a Documents directory.

    To me, this is ridiculous. And why is WSL even putting stuff in a directory subject to resetting.

    Linux on Windows has come a long way but this stuff should be simple. You should be allowed say what directories to retain from Users directories also. This is a flaw.

    Previously I tried about 10 different procedures to perform the windows update. I've no idea why it stopped working on Dec 15th 2020. The whole thing is so adhoc.

    4 hours of wasted time and 60Gb of lost data in the process... Well done....

    I had to update my windows 10. Reinstall did it for me. Windows 10 had a update to a newer version. That’s the update it was stuck on

    I'm having this issue also. And my wireless card is acting flaky also. This happened last year also. When the update finally did install last year the card worked perfectly.

    Now, I'm getting the error about missing security and quality fixes. What is missing? And why are so many independent groups other than microsoft explaining how to fix this issue.

    My machine is up to date for all anti-virus security related features and is reporting no issues, so how do I fix this?

    Also, this is a forum, and forums for such things are great for chatting about such things, but where are the online official Microsoft recipes for troubleshooting such issues. The only fixes I'm finding in step-by-step form are by independent groups.
