Windows 10 says I have no internet connection, but I have.

I am running on Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 2004, OS Build 19041.264.

I recently changed to the Windows Insider Program and updated Windows. In the taskbar, the Wi-Fi icon shows No Internet Access, but I have a stable internet connection wirelessly (Ex: I can browse the internet, ping IP Addresses, etc.). Another problem is when I try to open Cortana it also says that I have no internet connection (By the way, I can also open Microsoft's website).

As I know Windows checks internet connectivity with this URL: http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt. But this gives Error 404, File Not Found. Maybe it is because of this?

If you know the problem or an answer, please help. Thanks!

Hello, use Registry Editor, go to: 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

and modify: EnableActiveProbing

then change "Value data" from "0" to "1"

and restart your computer

The proper one is

"HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator\” -Name UseGlobalDNS -PropertyType DWORD -Value 1 -Force

But the more appropriate way to do this is not through registry directly, but through group policy config:

    I will repeat what I've said many times in this thread.

    If you want to break your machine's network connectivity HARD disable the active probe.

    But seriously.

    Of recent we are aware of only one scenario involving proxy servers that misroute active probes starting in build 2004, and not ALL environments with proxy servers will see this.  This is still an ongoing investigation.

    NCSI taskbar icon may report "no internet" on Windows 10 2004 devices that DO have internet access (microsoft.com)

    Outside of this issue, so long as you are up-to-date with our monthly updates the most likely cause for NCSI scenarios are enviromental/configuration-related.

    Even with new bugs, if you disable the active probe you will be breaking your machine even harder by destroying any and all ability to detect network connectivity.  Maybe you find in your specific machine's environment that disabling the probe works for you.  You will pay for it later.

    DO NOT DISABLE ACTIVE PROBING.

    Instead troubleshoot the reason the active probe doesn't get a response, which is usually best done by getting a network capture and checking for probe send and receive (or lack thereof).

    Search this thread for my other responses on other details of troubleshooting.

    I can't copy/paste this stuff every time someone posts the bad recommendation to disable the active probe.

    When I originally experienced this issue I found that the whole 'Parameters' key was empty. I thought it would be an easy fix to just populate that key with the default data. It worked for about 24 hours (my active wireless internet was recognized properly) but then, the following day, it went back to not being recognized.

    Now, it doesn't matter what changes I make to the enableactiveprobing or disablepassivepolling DWORDs. Windows just won't recognize my internet connection (even though it works fine).

    That's a known issue in the Windows 10 2004 update and is being investigated by Microsoft currently. Please file a feedback using the feedback hub if you are facing the issue.
