Windows 10 2004 optimization/defrag bug

I've just completed the Windows 10 2004 upgrade and I have noticed 2 issues.

When I manually trim my SSD in the drive defrag/optimize tool in windows and I reboot it says 'never optimized' when i go back. I heard this was a bug in insider preview which they obviously didn't fix.
I happened to have the defrag/optimize tool open at the same time as Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance, I initiated a manual maintenance and I caught windows defragging my SSD and then it trimmed it straight afterwards. If i click the optimize button in defrag/optimize tool it only trims it and not defrag.

This seem to only happen when Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance initiates its automatic maintenance or if I select start maintenance.

This is concerning as it should never attempt to defrag an SSD.

My laptop is only a few months old and came with a PCIe SSD and Windows 10 1909 so there is no compatibility or lack of trim support issues obviously.

I have disabled scheduled weekly optimizations in the defrag/optimize tool which prevents it from attempting to defrag when the control penal maintenance attempts its maintenance when the computer is idle.

I want to let everyone know that this is happening so others are aware. My other computers that have the latest update are also doing it.

OK. tomorrow morning I will install KB4571744. I will create a batch script via Notepad ++ so I can easily execute it.

I installed version 2004 (build 19041.450) from scratch plus all Windows updates on a brand new SSD yesterday and noticed the bug.

Better leave the automatic defrag OFF for SSDs for now.

Gosh, is this Facebook where none reads the former postings? :-D

I installed version 2004 (build 19041.450) from scratch plus all Windows updates on a brand new SSD yesterday and noticed the bug.

Better leave the automatic defrag OFF for SSDs for now.

After installation of KB4571744 the problem seems as resolved.

You may download the update manually as a CAB file from here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/download-windows-10-esd.216164/page-31

Then proceed as followed:
- Download the CAB Files x86 / X64 depending upon the OS architecture
- Rename file to KBnumber.сab (for example KB3176931.Cab)
- Copy to folder C:\
- Run command-prompt as admin (Right click on Windows icon and choose option). Check the image above.
- Enter the command “DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\KBnumber.cab“
- This installs the CU CAB File. Check the screenshots below for example.
- Your devices will restart once the installation is over. Else you may need to restart your PC

You are right. By the way, Since August 24, 2020, 10 pm to 11 pm I upgraded my Windows 10 to Windows 10 Build 19042.450 by joining Windows Insider Release Preview. but tomorrow morning I quit the Windows Insider Program by selecting the Stop Getting Preview Builds Option. I have checked Windows Update manually via the "Check for Update" button this morning the update has not appeared except for the definition update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

It might come a few days later in Windows Update on My PC.
