Windows 10 2004 optimization/defrag bug

Hi all

I've just completed the Windows 10 2004 upgrade and I have noticed 2 issues.

  1. When I manually trim my SSD in the drive defrag/optimize tool in windows and I reboot it says 'never optimized' when i go back. I heard this was a bug in insider preview which they obviously didn't fix. 
  2. I happened to have the defrag/optimize tool open at the same time as Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance, I initiated a manual maintenance and I caught windows defragging my SSD and then it trimmed it straight afterwards. If i click the optimize button in defrag/optimize tool it only trims it and not defrag.

This seem to only happen when Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance initiates its automatic maintenance or if I select start maintenance.

This is concerning as it should never attempt to defrag an SSD.

My laptop is only a few months old and came with a PCIe SSD and Windows 10 1909 so there is no compatibility or lack of trim support issues obviously.

I have disabled scheduled weekly optimizations in the defrag/optimize tool which prevents it from attempting to defrag when the control penal maintenance attempts its maintenance when the computer is idle.

I want to let everyone know that this is happening so others are aware. My other computers that have the latest update are also doing it.

    Hi all. latest news: finally Microsoft has confirmed the Drive Optimizer bug in Windows 10 May 2020 Update.

    and it looks like a possible fix will ship next week via Windows Update in Preview Update (Formerly Optional Update)

    known as the "C" Release. (C for the third week of the month). and if you Skip Preview Update this August they will include the fix in the Cumulative Update for September 2020 (Known as "Patch Tuesday"). i am quoting a page from the Windows Latest website.

    When you say Skip Preview Update this Augus t were you referring to this option update "2020-7 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4568831)" which i installed on 08/08/2020.

    Or is 2020-7 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4568831) the July preview update seeing it says 2020-7?

    The preview to skip would start with 2020-8 for August?

    Forgive me. I just opened the Microsoft Community site and read this thread at 7:51 a.m. Indonesian Time (to be precise Jakarta Time Zone / UTC + 07) Yes, I am an Indonesian.

    I actually had Cerebral palsy (CP) disability since birth.

    school only up to grade 2 State Elementary School. The rest are self-taught about Microsoft Windows and Google Android at home. (Self-taught learning independently).

    I type letters using only one hand. in the right hand (Mouse too). please understand my situation to all members of the Microsoft Community. 🙏🙏

    yes you are right. I know it. and it seems that when Idle 10 Minutes for example I do not find any suspicious Process in Task Manager or Bitsum Process Lasso (yes I use Process Lasso so that the CPU Cycle is not 100% CPU usage).

    related to Defrag.

    anyways i check it manually once a week (Analyze command). And when Above 11% (Need Optimization) for example. I defrag my HDD.

    Only windows system restore snapshots only should get defragged but drive optimization triggered by maintenance task or schedule defrags whole SSD for almos an hour.
