Microsoft store won't let me install apps on my D:\ drive

So I was trying out the Xbox Game Pass for PC and I was going to install Sea Of Theives and Astroneer.

I first downloaded Astroneer to my C:\ (my ssd) and it worked out because it is around 3 GB it fit.

However, when I was going to install Sea Of Theives I had to change my default drive from C:\ to D:\ (my hdd) because I couldn't fit it on my ssd.

It downloaded fine, but when it was trying to install the game, it just stopped and said "Error" instead on installing. Then instead of the "Play" button there is a button called "See details". When I clicked it, a popup comes up saying: "Something unexpected happened. Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait for a while and try again or restart your device. That may help. Code: 0x80070005"

That is the code for "Access denied" which is strange, why wouldn't Microsoft Store have access to install apps on my computer?

I have tried updating windows to the latest update, I have reset the Microsoft Store and I have tried to give the group "Everyone" access to the folder that Microsoft Store is installing in. Without any success.

To summarise, I can install apps from Microsoft Store to my C:\ drive (ssd), but not to my D:\ (hdd). It downloads fine, but when it tries to install I get the following error: "Something unexpected happened. Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait for a while and try again or restart your device. That may help. Code: 0x80070005".

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi Erik,

Please rename the folder WindowsApps in Drive D to WindowsApps.old, restart your computer, It should work after renaming it.

Thank you,

i know this sounds really dumb but this worked for me i know its kind of a weird fix i got a new hdd today and i did the "change where things are saved in settings" i did that for xbox settings too and it would go to queue and then give me an error (i then tried using the first drive i had with my pc and it worked  it was to do with file directroys or whatever youd call them for windowsapps so i kept trying to find a fix and none worked so i went back to the change where things are saved settings and i put it all back to my c drive and then back again to the drive i was trying to download the game on which is d drive and it created a new directly for windowsapps in the d drive for some reason it didnt do that before....( i got this drive withi n12 hours of posting this...honestly just do what i did if its a brannnnnd new hdd /sdd or whatever its just because it doesnt have the file directory that it wouldve used on a different drive ..i tried creating it manually but yeh theres too much ofc and i also tried moving files but it would have weird problems with admin access which it had ...my solution was to change where files are stored in the settings and then revert back to the old drive and then back to new drive for some reason that worked for me if you dont undestand how i wrote this just email me ******@gmail.com :)

I cannot believe this issue still exists. My boyfriend ran into this AGAIN when trying to reinstalling PSO2. Microsoft really needs to fix their store, especially with PS02:NGS Coming out in a few days. People are going to be upset if this occurs with NGS and I'm sure the forum is going to be flooded again. So, I am going to have to go and try the work around listed on this thread on his computer and see if it will work.
